water  ·  3571 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: $11,000 for Every Household: Could Guaranteed Income Work for America?

I don't think Mincome though is the end-all-be-all to guaranteed income plans, just a place to start thinking of ideas.

There is a tremendous amount of waste in bureaucracy, giving cash directly to people allows them the ability to individually tailor plans to their own needs. You could even set something up of a transitionary period where recipients could chose between the current welfare system(food stamps, etc.) or guaranteed income.

We also have to consider that our current Welfare system in the US suffers from a phenomena known as the "Welfare Trap" where recipients are essentially penalized for trying to seek higher forms of income, as it puts them in danger of losing welfare benefits, resulting in a net loss of benefits received.

The Welfare Trap is a real thing that plagues our welfare system(as well a bureaucracy waste) and is a symptom of an engineered plan that doesn't effectively complete the objectives it was designed to fix.

So regardless if we switch to a guaranteed income system or not, our current Welfare system is something we should not settle for, as it has obvious areas that require improvement.

Can you show your work? :)

Because if you had a sliding scale like in the article, i.e. cap at x amount of dollars, every dollar earned after that x subtracts .50 cents from each dollar of guaranteed income.

I think if you took all of the social welfare we have in the USA, housing, health care, food stamps, etc. etc.

Just paid people that money directly. It's more efficient. Less bureaucracy.

water  ·  3571 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: ROOMMATES - HOW DO YOU GET ALONG?

Pick up after yourself. It's the golden rule, if you leave something out, you're the worst flat mate ever.

No TV/Movies in Common Areas. This stops people from camping out in the living room all day watching Orange is the New Black.

Clean the kitchen.

Please, please, please... Don't just wash your hair down the bathroom sink/shower drains. No one likes clawing out long moldy, foreign hair pieces(because we all know no matter how hard we try we are going to have to do it eventually, let's just take some precautions)

Rules I break?

Taking out the trash. But if you Jenga the trash, that's messed up.

I love flowers... so I like to visit gardens, private or public, and capture them. Because picking them isn't so nice :)

Miss you back!

I've been so busy in life, I just moved into a new house with new flat mates, and getting everything together has taken more attention lately and my online life has suffered haha :)

What did I miss? Did you have a nice weekend?

They did this is 2 different rooms, an empty office, their own bedroom.

water  ·  3581 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: What is everyone's opinion on ebooks? Do you prefer them to physical paper books?

pretty much exactly how I feel. Unless I could have like a nice lofted vertical room with high shelves filled with books in addition to one of those little ladders that slides down the wall, a fireplace, a comfy chair, and a plastic pipe that has bubbles.

then. then thenewgreen, I would enshrine my books for ever!

water  ·  3582 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Samantha Allen has quit games journalism

This is the first I've heard of this and honestly from what I've read so far, it seems like people are criticizing her for speaking out, and this is exactly why she needed to speak out. The entire world needs to have a much more serious conversation about the equality of women and girls, because this is a pervasive issue everywhere.

ps you're so great for sending stickers around the world, I'll make sure to tag you when I post pictures of where I put them about the city that I'm in.

Yes they do and TPM(time, place, manner) gets very restrictive in pretty much every place that matters if you want to raise awareness to issues involving the ruling class.

Oh the hypocrisy.

water  ·  3588 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: What is everyone's opinion on ebooks? Do you prefer them to physical paper books?

I used to collect the ones i loved or meant something to me, display them on shelves, trade with others, loan them to people.

About a year ago I gave every single one of them away.

I will still read print and I will still read digital.

But I don't feel like I need to collect them or store them or save them.

Even if I do love the smell of them, the feel of the pages...

They are too much to keep up with, and only slow me down if I want to move, or cause me concern if I'm going to be traveling for a while, or caused me the feelings of loss if one was destroyed.

So much better are books, perfectly safe in the cloud, used by many, without the pesky crinkling of the spine or the tattered corners of pages from one too many dog ears.

I guess I never thought I would say this. But I prefer ebooks to books.

water  ·  3588 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Hubski, What makes you stand out?

I try not to stand out

I would love if when going about life, day to day, I would never have to stand out.

Sort of like how most of nature doesn't really stand out, that's why instead of describing individual pieces we say "the scenery is nice"

I want to be scenery, but not the photographed scenery, but like secret scenery, the type that only a few know about and the regulars are just lovers who go there and make memories together.

I'm so happy we follow each other this is the best share ever. Thank you b_b you wonderful magnificent human.

edit So I got to listen! I really like your pedal it sounds really fat and punchy.

I want to record something to play along with this. I'll share it when it's done... Although I might rec. hate it, and then be too shy to share, so that's a possibility too.

I have an iPhone 5s and I can't pull this up :/

I'll definitely listen to this when I get home. Thank you for tagging me!

When you record are you plugging in DI? Or are using a mic setup?

Cheers!

PS when you look for tracks to add to this, is there any editing I can do to make it easier for you to utilize?

Straw bale homes?

water  ·  3588 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Tiny Houses

Yes! Less house=bigger garden.

Maybe raise bees, have an edible landscape, keep minimal livestock for fresh eggs and cream... Ah that to me would be perfect haha

water  ·  3588 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Tiny Houses

I don't have many desires left for this world. So having a small place that I can sleep, groom, and make food, is really my needs.

Everything else in this life, if you're asking me, is frivolous. You'll leave it all behind when you die, acquiring and protecting this stuff costs money, sweat, tears, all of it bringing little joy and mostly stress.

I'm just over that.

These Tiny Houses are much more practical for someone like me with these thoughts in regards to life on this planet.

I want to live with as little materials as possible and one of the biggest obstacles is a place to live. A Tiny House could be paid for and no more rent, no loan with interest.

That sounds better to me than a lease.

You're not dismissive at all, you have a valid question and concern that I think most people would reasonably have too.

I know they aren't for everyone but I'm at this weird stage of life where my boyfriend and I are thinking that renting forever is getting old and we want to find a place to own and family and all that etcetera etcetera... My boyfriend though is not on board with a tiny house lol so it's an uphil battle for me :/

This is huge but this isn't going to stop warrantless wiretaping.

This seems to apply to a physical search of your phone after arrest, where warrantless wiretaping is the cataloging and storing of communications.
