Due date for my first child is 2 months and 2 days away. I felt perfectly fine right up until a few days ago and now I feel vastly under prepared, despite taking an entire weekend class with my wife and us both having stable jobs. I think the fact that we also have THREE cats and a PUPPY in the equation is making more nervous about any potential sleep in the near future. I just don't operate well without sleep. Despite having my stable job that I enjoy, I was alerted to a potential opportunity with a start-up a year from now in a CFO or similar type role on the completely opposite side of the country. It would be double my current pay, but obviously I'm a bit risk averse at the moment. Current job has great benefits, pay that I'm comfortable with, and I'm just now getting my hands around the inner workings of this industry. Also, it's hard to get into the Christmas spirit when it's 55 and foggy outside here in the mid-Atlantic, but I'll be damned if the Vince Guaraldi Trio doesn't do the trick.
My grandfather has always had one phrase that has been fairly applicable to most difficult situations in life: "This too shall pass."
I really like the "unshared" idea. Great addition. Especially the part that this will be an interesting way to enhance discovery.
Read this all the way through. I feel like kleinbl00 hit the nail on the head. I joined roughly 2 years ago, and even I've noticed the decline in discussion quality in favor of immediately relate-able one sentence comments or GIFs. I've been looking for something that was truer to discussion roots in a similar format, which is why I joined here.
The impression that I've learned in my short tenure here is that the philosophy of Hubski is to follow content based on users, not groups or topics. Users carry their own personality and interests, which may or may not be the same as yours. If they are, it serves as a foundation for discussion and debate, which are highly valued here.
That voting (at least in the U.S.) is more or less used too appease the masses.
Though only here a very short time, I think the "vagueness" (for lack of a better word) behind the relationship with user activity and badges will be a long-term asset for Hubski. I believe it's great for those who truly value discussion and are not in it for some imaginary points, which are noticeable immediately in reddit. Additionally, the follow and tag system allow for a more social mix of content. Personally, I like the idea of reading a person's submitted article rather than going to an entire subreddit. In other words, I give more trust to a single person who has proven that they continually deliver interesting content rather than a group or sub. I think it allows less room for content deterioration.
I disagree, but only slightly. To play devil's advocate, the argument could be made that there needs to be a balance of practicality to following your passions. Sure, doing what you love and traveling the world is what everyone wants to do - but IMHO the reality is that the bitterness of practicality is vital to truly appreciate the sweet things of life.
I think that's the idea of unshared, but correct me if I'm wrong mk. I suppose if you have interesting enough content, people will share it with their subscribers. Over time, people will learn that you provide quality content and subscribe directly to you.
For any jazz-hop or hip hop heads out there, gotta love "The Hop" from A Tribe Called Quest. Can't help but purse my lips and vibe back and forth to it.
My parents had a dinner bell when I was a kid. I could be on the other side of the neighborhood and hear that bell. Left in the morning after chores, and had to be back when that bell rang. But if you didn't come back after that bell? Shiiiiiitt......
A good book, a cup of coffee, a quiet room, and some rain/snow. Can't beat it. Blanket optional, though preferred.
If I'm being honest, I might be too practical at this point in my life. I'm in my early to mid 20s. Just finished undergrad. I had friends in high school who took two weeks and backpacked through Europe. Friends in college who studied abroad. Really wanted to do those things...but never had the funds. I guess I'm trying to set myself up now to be successful so that I might enjoy these things later on my own time. But the future will never be the present.
Thanks a lot, I appreciate it a lot. I'll be sure to PM in the future.
This thread is porn to stoners.
"Well that's just, like your opinion, man"
Accounting!
Man, what a great album. Another favorite of mine on there is "When You Wake Up Feeling Old"
Underrated: Frank Vignola or Tommy Emmanuel. They have a large cult following, but they are just stupid good at guitar, and I actually got a chance to play with Frank on stage at a show in Maryland (he talked to me at intermission and invited me to share a jam!)
I vote the blue and orange Hubski colors designating each party. Your choice. Bird's egg blue or pastel red-orange.
Great point. Slightly related and an interesting concept to look at - The Theory of the Leisure Class.
Unfortunately it's not from space. It's a picture from a plane with a space sky heavily photoshopped in. Definitely doesn't take away the fact that it's a cool shot though. Just not from space.
Well now I feel dumb about my response.
Yes. This is more along the lines I was thinking. But at the same time, I didn't necessarily want to put a definition on the term "absolute." I think it adds to the discussion, depending on each reader's interpretation.
I'm actually up the street at Towson University. Just finished my last accounting final last Monday. Walking across the stage on the 6th. Switched from UMDCP in the middle of sophomore year.
Does this mean it's a matter that seasoned programmers could lift on their own, or is regulated by HQ? The reason I ask is because I remember people back in the day fooling with their cable boxes to get free HBO and what not. Could the same happen with internet? Does it?
Guitar, though sometimes I don't play in a traditional way! Think Erik Mongrain or Andy McKee. But my heart is in jazz and blues. Here's some examples. (They're old though!)
Wow, this really is done a lot better than I expected. I could do without One Direction haha... but beggars can't be choosers.
