Here is a scale model of Venus de Milo that I 3D printed. The thing I love about it, is that the print was generated from a digital scan of the original object. Meaning that this tiny replica, with an accuracy of .01 mm, is second to none in reproduction. Every curve and fold of the garment is exactly as it appears on the original.
I've been on Hubski for a while now. I joined because it was started by a friend(s) of mine. Before that, I had never used a social aggregator before. I have never used Reddit, so I'm unfamiliar with the culture there. I can't think of a reason that someone would want to post anonymously. With absolutely no snark intended, I'm curious why this is a desired feature. It feels a bit slippery to me.
I've always been a fan of these USGS Mississippi maps:
I make shit all the time. Constantly. I'm currently on a design team for a community center. One little bit of fun we're having is looking at a potential fritted glass pattern. Fritted glass is basically porcelain permanently baked onto glass. We've been inspired by the crows on site and are looking at bird patterns at the moment:
Think of it as a stream of comments, chronologically, of all the people you're following. No algorithm. No filter. The fastest way to see the newest comments.
I think the human desire to be different is the most dangerous thing in the world.
I'm pretty excited to see what happens in Seattle with this, but the thing I hate most about pot is pot heads. I work really close to weed central here in Vancouver, BC near a place called the Amsterdam Cafe. I don't mind the occasional waft coming in through my 3rd floor office window, but I can't stand walking past the cafe's storefront on my way home, through the inevitable loitering cadre of obnoxious misanthropes. Hopefully this vote for decriminalization will also alleviate a bit of its stigma and relinquish it's fringe culture, for a lot of those punks I feel are not in love with pot itself, but with the fringe that surrounds it.
I like the idea of a town hall, but isn't all of Hubski already a town hall? I do think it would be a nice feature if hubbies had a real-time way of commenting, but it would also be great if there remained a record of that conversation as well. What if the existing comment threads just had a way to react real-time? What if when someone comments, it doesn't send you an email but instead lights something up on your control panel? What if, like on google chat, you could see a list of the people you are following and whoever is online will have their wheel a certain color - this would be toggleable of course. Did I just say toggleable?
