And also with you.

One thing I like about Hubski is that the conversations aren't "me & anon". I have been thinking about that. I have no desire to make Hubski big or popular or to make money.

I am seriously considering closing the open signup process, and doing the following:

  1. If you want to join Hubski, write a small blurb about yourself. No identifying details, just your hobbies, favorite reads, what you'd like to discuss, etc.

  2. Hubskiers with a Hubwheel can see this feed of apps, and approve new users as they like.

Thoughts?

The Ethereum Phone (ethOS) project I mentioned last week blew up.

Chris Dixon of Andreessen Horowitz gave the project a shoutout on twitter yesterday, and the discord has been flooded. My phone was a nightlight last night due to Twitter notifications.

Community calls for design and development are happening, and people all over the world are working together on a new mobile OS.

Just rolled a little snowball down a hill..

But that sales tax goes to the State, not Marquette.

It seems to me that many of us will get the Delta variant. If you are vaccinated or young, it likely won't be a big deal. But if you are unvaccinated and old, it is probably worse than the original strain.

IMO, at some point, we vaccinated folk are going to have to weigh boosters with risk and it is going to be more and more diffucult to make sense of the data because the variables are going to keep increasing.

We are spending the week in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee with a family we have been podding with. Hiking and games.

Sushi Go! is simple and fun.

My custom RC car is complete. Post-covid, I am going to take it to a track.

Has anyone here used Clubhouse? Obviously, it's all the hype. I keep meaning to try it, but as far as I understand it, I am not terribly motivated to. I can't really set time aside for it, and I have my doubts that jumping on at any particular moment will be time well spent.

It was like staring into the abyss. Biden tried to participate in a debate, Trump screamed and threw shit, and Wallace was like whoa whoa bad monkey whoa!

Trump's most cogent exclamation was a shout out to white supremacists.

It is my daughter’s second day of virtual school. I am sitting at the kitchen table, and she is at her desk. It’s interesting to watch her interact from this perspective. She is smiling a lot but saying little. She just said her name and waved her arms. I am trying to image what it must feel like for her. We took her first day of school picture in front of her desk. She’s in 3rd grade. I remember my first day of 3rd grade clearly because I had grey parachute pants and I was so excited to wear them. Parachute pants are awesome.

There has been a tremendous amount of parental stress around this school year. Personally, I haven’t been worried because my wife and I don’t have to leave the house for work. I really feel for parents that must juggle this and work, particularly those with multiple kids. From an educational perspective, if the school year did not happen, I don’t think it would be much of a big deal. Kids are resilient. We adults are the fragile ones.

We are going to head back to the UP of Michigan in just over a week. I am getting internet installed at the cottage. My second cousin will be there doing the same, so my daughter will have playmates on hand after the school day.

I just got my Uphold account activity. Someone donated 0.2 ETH to Hubski on 8/20. To Whom it May Concern, thank you. We also get about $10/mo worth of BAT from people using Brave and/or tipping. That makes a difference. https://hubski.com/donate

I think we can all agree that Hubski needs some fixing. Please think on that.

My painting needs some fixing. I slapped those clouds on there to give me no choice but to get bold.

I am building a custom 1/10 rc buggy and loving it.

I'm frustrated by these articles as they imply that he has a choice. No US President can remain in office after losing the election. The election means the incumbent lost the office, which we granted.

If Trump continued to physically occupy the residence after his term, well then he will have to be physically removed. If not by the Secret Service or other government policing force, then by the citizens themselves.

Trump is a public servant. He's not a leader the day we collectively decide that he isn't.

I started taking a different approach with the clouds the other night.

Just a start, but more satisfying than the direction I was headed in.

Forever Labs has been all-consuming these past weeks, and it is has been draining. But, it is also a challenge, and it's good to have something to focus upon. We've been having a number of conversations with high net worth individuals, and the perspective has been interesting. Uncertainty and doubt is waxing, not waning.

I've been thinking about that scene in the Revenant when he tells his son: "as long as you can grab a breath, you fight, you breathe... keep breathing".

I revived my old RC car. It took some piecing back together. The new battery pack arrived today, and is charging atm. It's a Tamiya Frog, that I got for Christmas and built around 35 years ago.

There's a dirt bike track about 10 min walk from our house. My daughter and I are going to take it there to tear it up.

Oh geez. This from Zhengli in 2010:

"Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) proteins of different bat species confer variable susceptibility to SARS-CoV entry"

ACE2 from M. daubentoni was chosen to generate a series of ACE2 mutants using a QuikChange II Site-Directed Mutagenesis Kit (Stratagene, USA).

Fuck Google Amp.

Headed to NYC w tng. Important meeting stuff. Going to get a very good burger after.

My wife and I went to a live stream of Fleabag at a local theater last night. It was very good. The monologue and the show shine in their own ways.

I’m reading Jude Angelini’s Hyena atm. It’s ridiculous, wrong, and poignant. I read his Hummingbird a couple of years ago. I knew Jude casually in my high school years, and can say that he’s for real. If you want to be offended and touched, check them out.

mk  ·  1630 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Hubskiers, what's an article or style of clothing you love but would never wear yourself?

A cloak. I rocked one for a short while in high school, but it’d really be an effort to pull it off now.

Everyone should be wearing cloaks. We all know we want to.
