Focusing on the idea that people should quit altogether, at the expense of not encouraging the switch to e-cigs, seems... I dunno... ignorant, at best. Murderous at worst. Am I off base here? Not that the article or OP are against e-cigs, it just seems so taboo to suggest that e-cigs are a good idea for some people.
Coming from a very billboard-dense state, I once found myself driving through relatively billboard-free Kentucky. The experience was refreshing enough to convince me of the fundamental value of eliminating advertisements. Aside from the subjective idea that life is just better without ads plastered over every square inch of spare turf, the battle against ad blockers is silly for one simple reason: once some bytes enter a user's computer, they can and will do whatever they want with those bytes, including ignoring directives for displaying advertisements. There's really nothing to be done about that.
Posts like this make me glad. I love reading other people's words as they do justice to a writing prompt that would leave me flatly typing "Violet, 400nm EM radiation". Thankfully, there are all sorts of beautiful minds out there.
It must be in the Andes given the oblate spheroid shape of the earth. That's as good as I can do.
Well, I've got terabytes of it! Maybe I'm the one Mongo use case, I dunno.
These "mongo is bad" articles always, always fail to acknowledge that (1) schemaless is a thing people want and need, and (2) nothing else comes anywhere close to Mongo is terms of ease of use for storing big, weird-shaped JSON documents. The kind of data that Mongo is good at makes relational databases melt their disk arrays. Yeah, it's not as fast as a normal relational database, so what. That's not the purpose.
Too bad it's closed source, that's a dealbreaker for me. Also, fwiw backtoyoujim, it is the crashes that bother me with Chromium. I get them every day whenever I open a file dialog. Reporting this particular bug has only resulted in finger pointing between the chromium team and the gtk+ team; nobody wants to fix it. Oh well.
For what it's worth I'm with you on the choice of drink, and I didn't imagine the hookers and blow until OftenBen mentioned them, but now I can't unsee them. Maybe everybody should just post a nice photo of their favorite beverage. Then it really will be like a pub: everybody drinking exactly what they ordered!
I mean, you aren't wrong, but... what kind of porn do you consume? Surely the objects of your fantasies are super-idealistic to somebody. At the end of the day, these self-indulgent fictions (whether written, graphic, etc) are mental happy places that I think people should be allowed to enjoy without fear of reprisal or offense to others, so long as everything that goes into the making of them is legal and consent-driven.
Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee time to show off our rabbits! They are my favorite little fluffballs ever. Here they are! This is Luna, after our favorite Harry Potter character. She's an adorable grump who has no problem nudging us out of the way and nipping at us when we don't immediately comply:
And this is Timothy Hopper, who got his name from the animal control worker who dropped him off at the shelter as a stray. We loved the name and kept it! He is sweet, gentle, and shy, and loves gettings pets but is scared of literally everything:
We love having rabbits. They are loving, lovable, quiet, clean, and hilarious. They are the perfect pets for us, both personality-wise, and because they are great in an apartment environment. I would have more rabbits, but that would be against our lease agreement and, more importantly, expensive (relatively speaking!).
I second psychoticmilkman, this seems very interesting and I'm eager to see how it goes, but I also wouldn't mind a simple donation mechanism wherein I can just hand over some money to help with costs.

Well said, again; thank you. Of course some well-adjusted part of me deep down knew I was being silly freaking out so much. But I'm glad to get a bucket of cold water to help me put my emotional horses and carts back in order. And I really appreciate your kindness.
Fair enough! Hopefully I laugh about it someday. Thank you for your encouragement and congratulations. I appreciate it sincerely!
Haha, way to put things in perspective, thank you. And yes, it will be okay. I just can't help but be (a) anxious about whether the hotel will find it and (b) sad that we lost this particular dress from such a meaningful occasion. At least we have tons of professional photos of the thing, so that's something. One day a better dress will be had; for now that was easily the nicest item of clothing either of us owned. Oh well, I doubt I will forget to check the closets again on the way out of some place.
There really is a community for just about every conceivable subject on reddit. I'll miss that. Just tonight, I was wondering "where does $some_neighborhood launch their fireworks from?"... and I went to my city's subreddit and found the answer right away.
I learned clarinet in middle school and kept playing all the way through college. I still play here and there when people ask. I did concert bands, orchestras, pit orchestras, and of course, marching band. Later, in college, I learned steel drum, and I had a blast doing that. I'm convinced there's not other instrument as fun as the steel drum. I'd love to still be playing, but I'd have to purchase the instrument (expensive), and it's a little bit difficult to find other steel drum players.
My 1987 Fuji Palisade is my pride and joy. I lovingly restored it last year and ride it all the time now. I moved the downtube shifters up to the bar ends using NOS Suntour barcons which are way better for me. I also redid the brake levers with some nice inexpensive modern levers with nice rubber hoods (compare old metal levers with plenty of gnarly bits from last owner's falls). Finally, I put a lower small chainring on it so I can pedal my butt up big hills without dying. Some grease, lube, and tape, and I have myself a gorgeous road bike for under $300. Beautiful champage silver color.
Same. Just tried to follow #linux and got deadlink, even with multiple attempts. (oops, sorry - I originally mentioned mk before realizing this was a #bugski - that's probably redundant)
Absolutely exhausted from a gruelling drive home. But, as earlier mentioned, my now-fiancé said "yes" and we could not be happier! The Bluebird Café a few nights ago was awesome as usual. I'm back in my dearly missed bed, and my dearly missed rabbits are back in their dearly missed home. All is right in my little world for a moment.
I think you nailed it with the "us versus them" mentality. Humans seem adept at identifying "the other" and then villainizing it to death. I'm young, but I feel like life so far has been trying to tell me "hey, everybody's different, and everybody's doing the best they can, and that's ok". Makes me sad to think how much we polarize ourselves.
It's worth noting -- the same thing happened again when I posted the above comment. 502, but it still posted apparently! Edit: but no 502 with this comment.
I think I was getting 502s when trying to post last night. Chrome saved the tab and kept trying to resubmit every time I reopened it. I figured it never posted, but now I know what really happened! I cleaned up the dupes :)
We are already enjoying using that term :) It energizes us just to say it! I have to say I haven't been this happy in a long time. It makes me a little bit thoughtful, also; I am grateful today for everything life has given me.
Thanks for the kind words! She said yes today :) I, too, planned it out, and it was great!
Little late (ok, a lot late) for this pubski, but I wanted to update my last post: she said yes! My beautiful girlfriend and I are now engaged and I couldn't be happier :)
Just wanted to express some of my love for Atom. It rapidly became my primary editor when I started using it a few months ago. It's got everything Sublime has, and it's open source, which for me is a killer feature. Every release is noticeably better in terms of performance and features, and the variety of available plugins is absolutely amazing. It's just my $0.02, but you should definitely try it if you haven't... or if it's just been a while since you tried it.
Even over just the last few months that I've been using it, it's gotten a lot faster. I would highly recommend that, if someone found it slow in the past, they try it again sometime and see what they think now!
