Shalane did pretty ok! Negative splits. I think she's probably feeling good for someone with 5 more of those things ahead of her...

Didn't he end up going out too fast and bombed? Saw a tweet about it (I'm on the running tweeter now folx) OK -- placed third. I don't call that a bomb at all, esp for a 39 yo

Www.broganbooks.com! And if the size/color combo you want isn’t there, I have a pre order form.

It’s just a lot harder to maintain backstock when it’s clothing and not sticker sheets!

Definitely missed it back then, but I could tell just by length and quality of story it had to be the sort of thing Hubski users appreciated

Congratulations, e!

Ugh. The story of the hiring process is frustrating. Even if it was difficult to decide on one person, I almost feel the hiring committee should have stuck to their original asks and made a decision. It is exhausting for applicants to have to go through unexpected and unplanned additional interviews/essays etc, and a bit unfair. I hope the job is satisfying.

I would be honest that I do think it’s hard to play the one and done application game, mainly because if you are rejected that’s so much time you’ve lost. When you have multiple plays in the game, your risk is a bit lower. Not everything riding on one thing. Maybe that would help with your feelings of agency too. When you only had one app out you really are dependent on that one job and their decision. But when you have multiple apps out, the focus is difused and you have multiple chances to “get in the game.” Just something to consider if it might help you feel more in control of things.

I hope it goes well! From another e.

Got some real newsy news newsing out there today, I see. Hot takes on what the protesting/occupying/violence at the capital might “mean,” in the long and short runs, anyone?

In my experience that is totally a thing! I hadn’t experienced it with baked goods but I have experienced it when adding cayenne pepper flakes to cooked foods (cucumber salad, collard greens etc). My sister and I had definitely found that as the pepper rests in the food, the food will get hotter!

Does it matter who it’s sponsored by if it resonates with you and helps you explore a point of view? Classic inceptionism.

I sent my dying grandmother flowers recently. Did I do it because I could use money to assuage my guilt or did I do it because it was a nice thing to do? Guess what — whether I’m a manipulative sack of shit who refuses to SEE my family in grief situations or someone who’s moved just far away enough that the drive doesn’t merit the discomfort, she, an 89 year old with kidney failure and dementia, can still look at a bouquet of sunflowers and have her spirit rise up.

I am not sure intent matters so much as impact these days. Certainly, when it comes to some things, I no longer care.

Turns out if your film adaptation of a book does well on Netflix, every copy of the book up for sale on the internet sells out.

So I'm reading "I'm thinking of ending things" on Kindle.

Never was a book more aptly titled for my life. Aren't I always the one?

In a PS, I'm re-watching Fright Night (maybe I'm watching it for the first time) and really enjoying it.

Pandemic TV is getting boring AF, and I'm in the mood for movies (not series). Drop your spoopy reqs below. If it's mainstream after 1990, I've probably seen it. And if you rec Babadook or Hereditary OR The Descent OR Silent Hill, I'm going to silently pretend you never existed. Otherwise...

...that's all. :)

This is very cool! Judging from the bear I guess you might be near VA if not in it...but I guess bears really can be anywhere in the SE.

I’m only about a 2 hour drive from Shenandoah now that I’ve moved and definitely want to make camping there a priority come spring. But I’ve never had to contend with bear concerns while camping before, so it will be a new learning experience.
