Thank you so much! I try really hard to add a lot of dynamism to my music, so I'm glad that kind of freneticism comes through without being too much. I was also learning fm synthesis (honestly I'm still learning fm synthesis) while making this, so all of the sounds have this very metallic and almost experimental nature to them (which I like a lot, but I also like a lot of stuff that lost people just call "noise", so my opinions are a little skewed lol).

Again, thanks for the feedback, and I'm happy you thought it was fun!

I've been listening to a lot of Ornette Coleman, Luciano Berio's Sequenza III (which is some pretty insane choral stuff), and a bunch of different things by Anton Webern.

Been listening to the new Milo album. It's pretty fantastic if you like art rap.

Also been listening to Desire by Everything Everything. I'm really pumped for their new album cause they're one of my all time favorite bands.

Other than that I've been listening to a surprising amount of 2 Chainz (which I never thought I'd EVER say).

Formerly_Me  ·  2420 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: What is a sandwich?

I'll check it out. Thanks!

Formerly_Me  ·  2420 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: What is a sandwich?

But what about open faced sandwiches? And cutting a burrito in half lengthwise (admittedly a dumb thing to do, but hey it's a thought experiment) would make it fit that definition of a sandwich as well. I do like where you're headed though, and I think we can definitely work with the idea that the way the bread is applied is important to what we consider a sandwich. I certainly think that it has to be a flat piece (or pieces) of bread on which the set of ingredients are applied.

Your definition brings to light something I was playing around with as well: the idea that sandwiches are more defined on how they look than how they're actually made. Thus a sandwich could be anything that is surrounded by flat (or relatively flat) objects of the same general materials. However, this begs the question of what multidimensional sandwiches would look like (which is a super weird thing to thinks about).

As soon as I saw "accordions" I was wondering if someone would mention this song! I found out about it through Madvillainy, but it's super cool seeing how Madlib changed it and how both songs kinda have their own unique ideas that they revolve around!

Formerly_Me  ·  2420 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Let's talk e-readers. Do you have one? Do you like it?

I don't think this is exactly what you're asking about, but I use my iPad mini for a large majority of the reading that I do. I don't use any fancy reading apps; however, I find that the small size of the tablet is perfect for reading because it fits nicely in my hand and its incredibly portable without being intrusive. The big plus to e-readers, at least as far as I've found, is the incredibly expansive library of (illegally downloadable) reading options ranging all the way from scientific papers to high fantasy novels (although I mostly stick to philosophy essays and math proofs cause I lack imagination). All in all I'd say that my iPad certainly fills a niche that regular books or my computer can't, and it's become a pretty integral tool in my technology arsenal!

"Lil Boy" - Death Grips (Alt Hip-Hop/Experimental Hip-Hop/Experimental Electronic)

Album cover is NSFW

"Ex Lion Tamer" - Wire (Punk)

"blkswn" - Smino (Hip-Hop/Jazz Rap)

"Mad Nice" - DANGERDOOM (Hip-Hop)

Trying something where I only post genre titles instead. I felt like I wasn't characterizing the songs well enough and I was forcing opinions that may not necessarily be universal.

Formerly_Me  ·  2542 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Hubski, what is your cathartic song?

Thanks for sharing this. The lyrics are quite applicative to so many situations, and I think that is a testament to the genius behind the sound design as a whole. Having been through a harsh breakup (and still recuperating from that experience), this song really speaks volumes about how someone (or something I guess) can stay on one's mind

Formerly_Me  ·  2542 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Hubski, what is your cathartic song?

Statistics are nobody's friend, but life has a weird way of trying to buddy up with math.

I've found a lot of solace in the threads you post and the music you share and I've never properly thanked you for that.

Formerly_Me  ·  2542 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Hubski, what is your cathartic song?

I feel you, man. I grew up listening to The Who thanks to my dad, and this song has always struck a chord (no pun intended) with me.

"Full of Fire" - The Knife

A nine minute thought provoking banger (with a pretty crazy music video too)

"Pork Soda" - Glass Animals

I didn't care much for Glass Animals last album even though I loved Zaba, but this track really stuck out to me (I think it's the pineapples)

"Redbone" - Childish Gambino

Ever since I saw Get Out this song has been in the back of my mind

That's it for this week. I haven't been able to listen to a lot of music because finals are coming up.

Formerly_Me  ·  2551 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: 221st Weekly "Share Some Music You've Been Into Lately" Thread

"HUMBLE." - Kendrick Lamar

I love this song and I love this video.

"Ain't It Funny" - Danny Brown

Danny talks about some pretty dark things in this song and Jonah Hill's music video is surprisingly perfect for this song.

"Takyon" - Death Grips

I've been re-listening to a lot of Death Grips recently, and this is just such a visceral and perfectly aggressive song.

"Emily" - Joanna Newsom

Joanna Newsom has opened my eyes to contemporary American folk music in the best way possible.

"Chanel" - Frank Ocean

This song has really captivated me since it came out. It's so smooth and Frank talks about some really big topics in this song. Plus I just love the way the vocals slide over each other.

"Restless" - Jana Hunter

Thanks to cgod for introducing me to this artist!

Formerly_Me  ·  2556 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: This album is so beautiful

Thanks for this! It'll make my long night of studying much easier.

Thank you so much. I really needed this.

Formerly_Me  ·  2569 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: The Oxford Comma: Great For Listing, Pontificating, And Winning Court Cases

That line of argument doesn't make a whole lot of sense. If commas meant "and" then why not use semicolons instead? (I'm not trying to argue with you; I'm just putting into text something I noticed.)

"Green Light" -Lorde

Disclaimer: I love Lorde, and this piano ballad is fantastic. The music perfectly compliments the tone of the song, and the slight vocal effects that Lorde uses only serve to further what's going on in Lorde's mind.

"No One Knows Me Like the Piano" -Sampha

If you haven't heard Sampha's newest album: GO LISTEN TO IT!!! Sampha carries so much soulful emotion in his voice. On top of that, his piano playing is fantastic and his lyricism brings him to new heights.

"Too Much" -Drake ft. Sampha

Honestly, I really only like this song because Drake talks about Houston and I have a strange pride for my birthplace. However, I think the beat is really nice and Sampha is great. Drake's bars are pretty classic Drake, so if you're into that then it's a pretty great song.

"Doug Stamper" -Open Mike Eagle ft. Hannibal Buress

Yes that Hannibal Buress.

"All Caps" -MF DOOM

I love DOOM. And his collaboration album with Madlib is my all time favorite album. I highly suggest everyone give this a shot.

"Snowing" -Daggerfall Soundtrack

This is my favorite video game (for many more reasons than I could fit in this small blurb) and the music is absolutely captivating. It added so much to the atmosphere of the game. I especially love this song because you can almost here the influence for the Skyrim main theme (which would make sense given that the province of Skyrim is kinda snowy).

"Pretentious Friends" -Modeselektor ft. Busdriver

This song BUMPS. I don't even know what it is about this song that I like so much, but I've listened to it at least twice a day for the past week.

"Ann Wants to Dance" -Papooz

This is a nice laid back indie song.

"Hey Mami" -Sylvan Esso

The minimal production coupled with Amelia Meath's vocals creates a mesmerizing soundscape.

"Mary Jane Love" -NoName

NoName is a spectacular lyricist and her beats have a nice classic hip hop influence.

"Why You Never Became a Dancer" -Whitehouse

Whitehouse is nuts. It's harsh and abrasive and like nothing you've ever heard.

Formerly_Me  ·  2584 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Who is your favorite rapper?

Sounds like I'll enjoy him cause I love all of Hellfyre Gang!

I'll give these a listen; thank you so much!

Formerly_Me  ·  2585 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: "A Trip to the Moon" is on Netflix

Oh for sure. If I had more time to consistently sit down and watch movies I would definitely signup for filmstruck.

Formerly_Me  ·  2585 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: "A Trip to the Moon" is on Netflix

I really hope Netflix starts bringing in more classic films like this. It'd be so nice to have a place where I can easily find old films that I haven't been able to watch.

Formerly_Me  ·  2585 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Who is your favorite rapper?

I'll check out the other guys you mentioned, but Outkast is fantastic

Formerly_Me  ·  2585 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Who is your favorite rapper?

Madvillainy is probably my all time favorite album, so I feel you there.

Formerly_Me  ·  2585 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Who is your favorite rapper?

I haven't actually heard of Billy Blue before! The song you linked was pretty dope, so I'll definitely check out more of his stuff.

Formerly_Me  ·  2585 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Who is your favorite rapper?

Earl is dope! If you haven't, for sure check out Between Villains. It's got DOOM, Earl, and Captain Murphy (Flying Lotus' alter ego)

Formerly_Me  ·  2586 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Who is your favorite rapper?

I know the classic example of his rhyming prowess is That's That, but I think Guv'nor is crazy because he uses Eyjafjallajökull and rhymes every single syllable!!

Formerly_Me  ·  2586 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: 216th Weekly "Share Some Music You've Been Into Lately" Thread

Hahaha, and I thank you greatly for that!!

You should definitely try and find the entirety of Perfect Lives! It's wonderful. Robert Ashley's voice is mesmerizing and the instrumentals behind him form this neat web of sonic landscape.
