Damn, hope that engineering going as planned, super hard thing to get a master's degree in.I'm in the same situation as you, except that I'm a freshmen right now, and look forward towards getting a math BA

DrunkenFlutePlayer  ·  3153 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: August 31st: What are you reading this week?

finishing up Infinite Jest for the second time, totally worth it. Since I'm starting up as a freshmen in college my literary endeavor will unfortunately be put on hold. Looking into finishing my Dostoevsky collection though.

read his post on Facebook. honestly didn't think that he enjoyed making that album due to label restrictions but I guess i'm wrong. In terms of hip hop albums it's definitely not bad, but when put into context in terms of Lupe' other shit, including his 6 mixtapes, it definitely sits at the bottom imo

yea, it's the ultimate music hub for hip hop heads.

and that's totally spot on. Rodeo was complete garbage. Oh well, I think that's what we sacrifice when we leave the decisions up to the hype machine

Cool, so we agree. Lol

What about this

Trying to define f(yourself) is like trying to inexplicablefeelingbutimplicit(bite your own teeth)

DrunkenFlutePlayer  ·  3154 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Vague Ideas

Here's a good example: what do you call the two lines on your face that come down from your nose to the extremes of your lips?

This would be true if only we were talking about knowing words themselves. The issue here is the definition and the inexplicable, not the word nor prevalency. We can point out those lines on your face because they are there, but this logic breaks down when talking about abstractions. Knowing what the two lines on your face are called and meeting head on with sudden short-term aphasia when trying to describe what "Art" or "God" is are two different scenarios and can't be compared.

Sorry about the ambiguity, I think i was just waking up when i wrote that comment :p By "bodyweight" i mean advanced gymnastic movements such as L-Sits, front levers, back levers, handstands, planches, ect. A really good book on this is "Overcoming Gravity". Essentially a manual on how to go about training bodyweight movements, mobility, and things related to gymnastic-esque training

T&Y was a godsend and I was on KTT the night this dropped. Lupe might be returning to his roots in terms of style, or maybe after he figures out who Ahab is and why doctor Sergio Canavero is in the game :p

DrunkenFlutePlayer  ·  3155 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: My First Week Back on the Iron

Awesome and inspiring too :p I used to be heavy into powerlifiing ( never entered into an actual competition but my parameters for my workouts were always of the strength orientation) and I 've been on a hiatus ever since the summer, and this might be the stepping stone I needed to get back into the game. Definitely gonna master the bodyweight movement a first though.

Also, I recommend buying a good foam roller, having a stretching routine, and also heading over to http://www.mobilitywod.com There are a lot of things happening within your own body physiologically that you might not even be aware of, and the WODs are a lifesaver for a someone who powerlifts or lifts with heavy parameters

Anecdote is awesome and I completely agree with your philosophization of the zany architecture that our mind governs.

This is an awesome read, especially for self claimed semi-conspiratorialists such as myself. lol

DrunkenFlutePlayer  ·  3183 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Dear Hubski, what do you want to learn?

I never really got into my own culture, and because of that, lack the linguistics of that culture. Right now I speak english, spanish, and urdu(native to pakistan) but im currently learning two more languages which are more geo-specific. Besides that I'm really getting into Information systems, backtrack/kali, and coding in general, so I have a lot to digest everyday lol

Also gotta freshen up on ny math for these placement tests in college which is a total drag

Unfortunately thats how the world operates in its current form

DrunkenFlutePlayer  ·  3185 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: So... switching to Linux.

I can't really address the first conflict considering I have never worked with a thinkpad, but I can answer the second. Since Linux is open software, the stack exchange/community database is constantly being updated with questions, and honestly in the beginning just learning how to really fully navigate the terminal and do commands should be a healthy enough challenge for you to later get started with actual programming. Also, concerning distros besides the main 3-4, look into elementaryOS I have really been diggin the feel of it in my laptop, but on my desktop I mainly use either Debian or mint. Hope you like Linux, because I really can't go back after I claimed full ownership of my own devices, lol :)

I'm also going to CC but didnt really face any stigma/pressure due to me not really telling anybody about it lol. It is more of an economic issue for me, but I also plan on redeeming myself after a seemingly meh high school record (depression for fresh/soph year and drugs junior/senior year). Honestly, as long as you yourself don't lose the initial potential you were born with, coupled with sound determination, I really don't see any negative of CC. It's cheaper, allows you to adjust to the collegiate level relatively well, and in my own state(NJ), they have a law requiring state colleges to accept CC transfers, so at the very least I will graduate with a BA from the state school(prob Rutgers NB) and ontop of these "gurantees", I also have an opportunity to go to more advanced colleges if I do well in my classes(I'm majoring in either Physics or Comp.Sci)

Anyways, good luck

If you happen to enjoy it, look into Breakfast of Champions or Cat's Cradle. Also do you mess with Douglas Adams?

Sorry, this comment is private.
DrunkenFlutePlayer  ·  3193 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Why Liberals Have to Be Radicals

Ill edit this and get back to you later. Im in a time constricting situation

Edit:

You, the lobbyist, say you'll give me some money to do some shit. I say, sure, of course I'll help you out. I'll do everything I can to get that bill passed. And then when the bill doesn't pass, that's exactly what you get. I'll put my hands up in the air and I'll say "Hey, I did everything I could. Sorry, can't win em all." and that'd be it. You'd keep your job but you'd probably be lower middle class at best. Your company would barely make any money from you and as a consequence they'd barely put any money into lobbying. Campaign funds are significantly diminished across the board. It's not worth very much to pay for a promise that you can't even be sure was kept.

So this is one way anonymity can go, and it is possible, but what the way I thought the revolving door would respond to your idea is by working mutually to ensure that they make money, pass the right bills, and essentially maintain the position they do now. They would accomplish this when, like you said, the lobbyist will reach out the the congressman to vote on bill Z, the congressman sympathizes with the moral implications of passing bill Z but the lobbyist is also offering cashola if he passes the bill. But now since the congressman's votes are operating under full anonymity, he can vote for the bill, get paid for either voting for the bill (because the money doesn't always extend to passing the bill, voting is enough for these lobbyists to whip out their wallets) or passing the bill, and since your votes are anonymous, no one knows you voted for that bill, and you are corrupt, so they don't know whether to vote to keep you in office or not.

And then when the bill doesn't pass, that's exactly what you get. I'll put my hands up in the air and I'll say "Hey, I did everything I could. Sorry, can't win em all."

I have a much more wary perception of congressmen. My scenario involves a lot more compliance on part of the congressman, and of him being apathetic towards moral concerns, and him being more greedy. Your scenario has him on the good side

Ministry is dope! I really mess with the rammstein collective

DrunkenFlutePlayer  ·  3193 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Why Liberals Have to Be Radicals

Well the way i understand it, lobbyist would do the usual reachout to congressmen, and then when the congressmen would vote on the bill, and it would be anonymous, no one will know what the congressmen voted for, making it harder to localize the congressmen who sold-out, and shame them and eventually kick em out

As an ultra new user, and being directly affected by this, I completely agree. It makes no sense for a butterfly to have a strenous discussion with a caterpillar. Although I might even face the consequence of this, I realize the logic of it

DrunkenFlutePlayer  ·  3193 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Why Liberals Have to Be Radicals

by having congress vote secretly like everybody else

That would mean they could get paid under the table and we wouldn't even know it then !
