CardboardLamp  ·  3022 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: The White Man Pathology: Sanders Vs. Trump

I'm going to have to agree with comments written on this article.

It seems like there's more and more self-guilting articles, where white people are bad. They're bad, and they all benefit from racism. But only white people are racist, so they only benefit. Being white is a sin, because you oppress people from how much you're profiting off of their work.

That's basically what I got from this article. Maybe I'm not-so-left, and maybe a reactionary right. Maybe I should depart off of hubski-island too.

CardboardLamp  ·  3024 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Dear White America

I completely agree with this. If I'm not the one being racist, don't tell me that I'm part of it. If you believe something is racist, take it up to the people being racist and improve it. If you need help with that, ask anyone you want to help you out, but don't group me up because of my skin color and call me racist.

What are you going to use these books for?

CardboardLamp  ·  3037 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: What are your guys thoughts on Japan re-militarizing?

I think with a falling birthrate, it'd be bad to get into a war since that's more stress on the man if they try to raise a family, aka less people getting married.

Nah, I want to develop a language based on my Lampism cult.

CardboardLamp  ·  3046 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: What is the story behind your username?

I just recently started this username series (Mr Lamp) and it's because of an inside-joke with friends that turned into a religion. I am the god of that religion. Lampism.

CardboardLamp  ·  3048 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: On starting a religion and a language

Well I'm thinking with the new generation that considers my religion "just a silly thing" and become believers, maybe some people will become actual believers, which in turn pressures non believers to believe because they have all these people (whether they're joking or not) to become part of the religion.

Seems like something that could actually work, you know

CardboardLamp  ·  3049 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: On starting a religion and a language

As an imaginary world thing.

But probably include my friends, and then start spreading from there. World domination with my religion is my goal.

CardboardLamp  ·  3048 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: On starting a religion and a language

I guess mine will be a cult then.

CardboardLamp  ·  3049 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: On starting a religion and a language

wow that's quite a lot! thank you for the information

Well I've tried Norwegian a little, and have completed the Esperanto one (both are only a few months old).

Here's some differences of Esperanto and German (German is also one of the original oldies).

1) At the top of the page, there is no "Words" or "Immersion" feature for Esperanto.

2) No Fluency Level Badge meter thingy (not that it really matters because it's not really accurate) for Esperanto

3) None of the following optional skills in shop: Idioms, Flirting, Christmas for Esperanto

4) German has a refined and expanded tree I believe. At the very least it has probably twice the amount of lessons as Esperanto.

Some things that are also probably true is that German has less bugs, less errors, and more comments per post, but I can't confirm that. You can use the newer languages on Duolingo without much difference.

Does the link not work anymore?

Duolingo is great for beginning a language. Especially with spanish since it is one of the original languages, it has the most developed features.

Russian! What a language. It's definitely on my list for to learn, because shouting in Russian and German sound so scary :3

Also the history which is very long and interesting.

He, I'd like to do Dutch but it's kinda far on my list (Esperanto - German - Spanish- Norwegian - French - Dutch) so in the far future...

CardboardLamp  ·  3055 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: A Geeky Problem: Queer Terminology for a Constructed Language

I have never heard of lojban before, so excuse me if I am wrong. If it is a "logical language" (that's what I'm getting right here), woulnd't gender be constructed with what already exists in lojban? I read that there are 1350 root words, and I'm sure that "male" "person" "changed" and "female" exist in the roots, so couldn't you say something like

"I" "am (to be present tense)" "female" "changed (to change past tense)" "male" for trans for example (I really have no idea if this is how lojban works, I'm guessing).

Or

"I" "love" "male" "and" "female" for bisexual people.

And if that turns out to be a really long word then just shorten it like Esperanto's Mojosa (MOderna-Juna-Stilo, or Modern Young Style).

I don't really see how LGBT terms would be useful often however, I mean, if you go to a party and meet someone you would say "Hey I'm CardboardLamp", instead of "Hey I'm CardboardLamp, I'm a color of race, sexual orientation, age, etc etc etc", unless you're at an event specially held for LGBT members.

(I don't really get the point of those either, I mean, why would I hold a party specifically for straight people or black people? When I could just invite everyone I care for).

And could you tell me what you mean by "retains mostly cis and heterosexual concepts despite known speakers"? Are there words only straight people can use? That doesn't seem really "logical" with the whole cultural neutral thing.

Anyways, the questions you are asking:

1) I'm a straight. I have an SO, etc

2) I am in love with the person of my opposite gender.

3) Nothing really. Could you give me some examples? I might just not be remembering any off the top of my head right now.

4) I don't speak lojban nor am I interested in it, so no thanks.

5) Esperanto

Why do you have to specifically specify "feminists, POC, and marginalized peoples"? I don't think most of them stop when they see an internet post to check if they're invited before posting a reply. And is it not about cultural neutrality? It seems like you want it to be diverse, within the range of the above people you mentioned specifically.

As an english speaker (I'm assuming) do you feel Dutch is easy or hard? I'm interested in learning it in the future.

If you live in Europe, dutch people should be easy enough to find I think. Wikipedia articles do indeed help.

And what you feel is very common, I believe. But you can never get good at talking to people if you practice and mess up ;3

CardboardLamp  ·  3055 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Any hubski users here into language learning?

Thanks. I will check it out.

When you say classical Greek, is that the kind of Greek they speak today? Or is it ancient?

CardboardLamp  ·  3055 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Any hubski users here into language learning?

I know there's a duolingo-like app for chinese.

http://www.hellochinese.cc/

I've never used it however, so I don't know how good it is.

For Arabic I guess somewhere like /r/languagelearning of reddit would help.

Do you feel Italian is easy to learn being a fluent spanish speaker?

CardboardLamp  ·  3055 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Any hubski users here into language learning?

It's useful when i study other subjects like sciences and names of important people in the past too

CardboardLamp  ·  3055 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: What language(s) are you currently learning?

1) I am learning Esperanto and German

2) Duolingo, Anki, Memrise, reading poems and short stories, lernu.net, youtube, movies, skype chat groups, etc.

3) Yes. I hope to go to Germany in a few years.

4) Esperanto has been the easiest for me, I love it.

5) Esperanto.
