thenewgreen, yuck. Once during a dinner rush on a game day (which is important because the restaurant is a just blocks from Fenway Park) a rat fell into the Fry-O-Lator. When it hit the oil it exploded, fur EVERYWHERE. Of course, this meant that we had to empty out all the oil and get in there and clean it and then change the oil.

Another time my boss got fed up with the rats getting into the basement where we did prep, washed dishes and had the walk-in as well as the office and the ice-machines. He sealed up all the holes he could find. He was a big meth-head and so he stayed up for days plugging all the holes. That summer was really rainy and the downstairs flooded. The rats, sealed in the walls had no where to go and drowned. Dead animal reek for months. Even servers and other staff who didn't smoke lit up when they had to grab something from down there.

I don't ever want to do restaurant work again if I can help it.
