It's probably his most famous essay, but there are many gems in his complete works. Orwell had a talent for seeing the barriers of race and class in a light not shared by many other writers I have read from that time period. Maybe Mark Twain came close, but he was never the kind of crusader that Orwell was, and Twain didn't have the variety or intensity of experiences that Orwell did (Burma, India, Spanish Civil War, and Industrial England).
