I don't think that anyone truly ever accepts themselves and anyone who says they are is just putting up one of these walls you're describing.
We all seek acceptance (myself very much included). I'd say it's what drives most people to do what they do. Some people are good at achieving acceptance from others, some are not. I retract my first statement as I'm remembering a friend of mine who probably does accept himself. He's a guitarist so I know he doesn't accept his ability to play and always strives to improve. But as a person he's kindhearted and I'd argue that he does accept himself.
