I am a big booster of what NFTs can do and what they represent and holy shit they're nearly all fuggly and useless. You can buy four algorithmically-generated ape cartoons... or a Magritte. On the basis of "value = sunk time", one of ten thousand vaguely-differentiated cartoons have a value of zero. On the basis of "value = future worth", one of ten thousand vaguely-differentiated cartoons have a value of greater fool theory. The whole fuckin' world is buying ugly cartoons because the SEC clamped down on ICOs so they can't sell shitcoins to each other nearly as easily as they used to and oh holy fuck does OpenSea reflect that. Art value is something dictated by tastemakers, and right now the tastemakers are crypto whales who used to tweet lambo memes at each other. Investing in NFTs at the moment reflects a bet that their tastes will never mature. That's not a bet I'm willing to make.IMO BAYC are trail-blazing something entirely new.
