"Oh yeah... I remember that day well," Ritchie Blackmore tells me. "Ian Gillan, Jon Lord and I were sitting around in this castle in the Swiss Alps that our record company had rented out for Deep Purple to record in. We'd finished the main recording sessions for the day, and I had just put some new strings on my guitar. Jon was talking about the structure of these Baroque music pieces he'd been learning, and I just started playing whatever came to mind as he talked. Jon had a way of making you really feel the music he spoke about - it was one of his greatest gifts - and this song, as you hear it here, is what I played to Jon's words. Ian refused to put words to it. He said it was perfect as is. It's a shame we never released or finished this track... it has a lovely development to it, and structure. Maybe someday we will finish it. Who knows?"
