For the last couple of days, the best space-rock band of all time, Sky Cries Mary has been played as often as my hardcore punk playlist.

But this week I wanna talk about Sky Cries Mary. Listen to this Spotify playlist of their genre-defining album "A Return To The Inner Experience" while I spin you some context, and a tale. (Stick with the first track. Yes, it's 3:48 of build-up, but the drop is a glorious thing any EDM DJ could be jealous of, and sets the iconic SCM TONE as you move into the track "Moving Like Water".)

Sky Cries Mary was a Seattle band that came to power during the grunge era, and therefore always stood just on the precipice of success, but never summited that peak.

The two singers - Anisa and Roderick Romero - intertwined their vocals, flowing over the top of the sweeping synths and heavily chorused guitar sounds, while the drummer and bass player drove a distinctly danceable groove underneath all the celestial sweeping sounds at the front of the stage.

Their version of the Rolling Stones' "2000 Light Years From Home" is a brilliant rocking rendition of a little-appreciated track, that Sky Cries Mary made their own:

The band courted stardom for a while and seemed always just on the brink of finally hitting the big time... but that time never came. Since then, members have spoken heartfelt love for what they created with SCM, and many have gone on to other things...

Juano (now just "Jon") Davison (who I took bass lessons from) is now the lead singer for Yes.

And you may recognize Roderick Romero as a world-class treehouse builder.
