Georgia is now hands-free. Meaning you basically can't touch your phone at all while you're driving. There are exceptions. I can't remember them off the top of my head. You can wear a headset to talk. You can't wear a headset to listen to music. You can't access your phone at a red light. You can while lawfully parked. Someone was quoted as saying they want to make distracted driving as bad as drunk driving in the minds of residents. Added revenue, not just directly from the law, but now having a legal pretense to pull over about anyone and potentially find drugs or something is a wholly unintended benefit I'm sure. The law is unenforceable at best as it's written. In practice, it'll be up to the discretion of individual officers to decide when you're in violation. I drive my car for money at the moment and I'm more upset by this stupid law than I would otherwise be. I can multi task pretty well and can go into auto pilot during some menial tasks like driving. Not saying I should be able to type and post this to hubski while I'm driving, but the act of hold a phone to your ear isn't the distracting part, engaging in conversation is. And some people can't walk and chew gum so any time they're talking on the phone while driving it has the potential to dominate their cognition. I'm expecting to be pulled over at some point in the future for no good reason.
