I say it's a positive thing, I didn't like the system where the admins picked what was best for people to see, and I still think the default system was bad from day one. If the general population doesn't get or enjoy memes and in-jokes, they shouldn't be on reddit. If I wanted to be part of the gathering place for everyone, I'd use facebook.
