I'm on a mailing list that will send me an automatic notification in the event of an anomalously high neutrino flux, signaling the onset of a star in the Milky Way going supernova. I'm not exactly holding my breath though, astronomical timescales are... well, astronomical. If Betelgeuse were to blow, it'd appear about 1/3 as bright as the full moon. That'd be pretty cool.
