When I lay there

on the grass as faceted

and refractive as an emerald,

as a dyed-green prism,

let my eyes wander between

patches of blue sky like cow hide

covered-over by white clouds,

and I turned my head to you -

couldn't it have been the same day

as any other day, and couldn't I have

one more afternoon in hot July

to reach my hand across the clover

and trail a finger down your arm?
