I thought this article had some good points, but I found something that strongly casts doubt on the author's sincerity.

To name two, the major collections of the Hadith Sahih Muslim 3:684 and Abu Dawud 41:5251 support the practice.

I took a look at these two "supports of the practice".

Sahih Muslim 3:684 (relevant part)

[...] What makes a bath obligatory for a person? She replied: You have come across one well informed! The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: When anyone sits amidst four parts (of the woman) and the circumcised parts touch each other a bath becomes obligatory.

Abu Dawud 41:5251 (in full)

A woman used to perform circumcision in Medina. The Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) said to her: Do not cut severely as that is better for a woman and more desirable for a husband.

Are you fucking kidding me? THIS is what he pulls out to prove that the Quran supports female genital mutilation? I'm currently looking into it further, but he couldn't possibly have chosen a worse example than the last one.

Edit: I've looked at it a bit more, and my conclusion is: Both sides (in the muslim community) find ways to justify their views based on spurious grounds on this issue. There are no clear dictums supporting or condemning FGM.
