I understand the outrage. However, the problem here is that someone has been granted (or has assumed unhindered) too much authority over the rights of others. Capital punishment (especially for crimes that don't involve homicide) is this taken to the extreme. Pursuing justice and the rule of law is what makes you feel free in a place worth living in, pursuing the righting of wrongs leaves you paranoid in a neighborhood that went to shit.
