In that case, maybe the Supreme Court should have used the argument of equal protection with the 14th amendment instead of the commerce clause. I agree with the end result, just not the methods. And I'm not even sure about my views, for that matter.

Can we also see how many people are following a tag when we choose it? This would make it easier to find the right one among small variations.

No L-bomb yet it looks like haha

Great answer thanks. It seems like you definitely know what you are doing, I hope everything goes well in the future :)

I actually am a little bit. It never even crossed my mind until I took an intro government course this last year. Segregation is very clearly wrong, as well as discrimination against homosexuals, but sometimes I get stuck in my head trying to unravel the distinction between what rights should belong to which levels of government, whether the loose interpretation of the 14th amendment contradicts its original intent (or the original intent of separation of rights between the federal and state levels in the original amendments and articles), as well as the broad use of the commerce clause to justify the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

While yeah, I do think it is high time to do something about discrimination, it is the means by which is should be done where I become conflicted whether or not we are following our own rules we set for ourselves for who gets to decide what.

Man, this is incredible. Thanks for sharing. I've always had the dream in the back of my head that one day I would just grab my money and some belongings and leave to just make my way like this. It's good to be reminded that it really can be done if I ever feel like I need to. What would you say the hardest part of this has been for you?

That's awesome! I'm curious, how did you manage to grow so quickly?

pianite  ·  3234 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Voat hosting reddit's exiles

I agree with you that I think voat is definitely just going to adopt the same shitty qualities of reddit, maybe even in a higher concentration. From a brief time looking at it and what you've said about the people there, it seems like most people switching just want the exact same thing as reddit, just without the censorship. They like the low-effort content, one line jokes, and such, so it makes sense to me why voat would quickly adopt the same attributes. However I think there is another group of people that most people are overlooking. I think there are those who have been dissatisfied with that type of low-effort environment on reddit and have taken this as the time to branch out. This is personally what I did. I've been wishing reddit was better in so many ways for so long, that once this all came along, suddenly there were entire threads dedicated to finding "reddit replacements". So that's why I'm here. I didn't really like the censorship, I didn't think FPH should have been banned either (though I understand why it was), but my main goal in leaving was to find a better platform than reddit (or at least, better discussion), not to just find another site with the same characteristics.

Definitely going to be some interesting rulings. A lot of big issues here, mainly the same sex marriage one. I'm definitely happy that the supreme court has finally taken a case on it, but I think either way it goes I am going to end up being conflicted between wanting gay marriage to be legal nationwide and wanting to preserve the rights of the states.

What country are you in? If it's the US, that is exactly why we have a republic. Also, why does a stupid populous mean it's a bad idea to change things?

pianite  ·  3235 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Why are you what you are politically?

It is also the resigned and hopeless attitude of the people in this thread that has motivated me to study government and persue politics as a career. To those of you who are predicting nothing will change, I hope I can prove you guys wrong.

pianite  ·  3235 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Why are you what you are politically?

Because I believe the form of capitalism that we have currently does not sufficiently protect the poor/uneducated/minorities, and that investment in them is the best way to improve the economic and social state of this country (USA btw)

Hmm, I'm using Adblock too, weird. Glad you figured it out though.

Maybe you could add a font size option in settings? Set the default as medium but then let give people the option to change up or down. Personally the first thing I did was scale the site up to 125% in Chrome haha

Hey, thanks for the reply! I can totally sympathize with stuff getting hard to look at after a while. I'd be happy to fiddle around with it for a while as I get to know the site better to see if I can come up with some other new ideas. I'm glad you like it!

I agree! I should have used a lighter shade. Thanks for the feedback!

Oh my god... I didn't even realize there were other themes, oops haha. I guess I should have looked through the site more before posting something like this. I'm currently using the spring theme which I think provides a bit better contrast.

And yeah, I agree with you on the grey, looking at it again now it probably should be a few shades lighter. What do you think of the font size?

Sorry I'm not sure what you are referring to. Could you be more specific on which text you mean?
