What Blogs Do You Read?

Curious what people on Hubski read?

I never followed any blogs, though I love a lot of blog posts; I think I just never found a way to follow them efficiently. I don't like simply visiting a bunch of separate websites everyday to see what's new, and I never found an RSS reader that I liked (and was too lazy to make my own). It's probably why I gravitated towards social news aggregators such as HN, Reddit, and Hubski.

I feel the same way towards RSS. I tried a few programs and Google Reader, but I never really enjoyed the experience. So, I trimmed my daily visits to a handful of sites. One of them is my favorite news aggregator: 3 Quarks Daily.

For RSS, I've been using FeedReader for a few years now, it's easy, pretty simple, and free. Didn't like Google Reader at all.

I used to run the FeedReader extension on Chrome, but I felt kinda bad about leaving all those blog posts and news unread. The number just kept growing and growing and I couldn't keep up. Eventually, I just unistalled it and instituted a daily rotation around a few websites.

I can't recall its name, but I used to have a program that ran at the top of the screen, showing you the latest headlines from your feeds. It was awful. I felt drowning under the information flood.

I only use it for a few feeds, like discussion/support groups for microprocessors I use, that sort of thing. And Hacker News, and a very few others. Too many feeds and it becomes a burden. But, it's really good for the sites that don't publish often.

You had mentioned 3 Quarks Daily in the past and I have since began making it a part of my regular rotation, thank you.

I'm glad you liked it. You're most welcome. :)

Do you have a iOS device forewardslash? If so, I highly recommend 'Zite'. It delivers an article stream based on a collection of topics you choose, and you can vote articles or authors up or down if you want. But the bottom line is that it gives you a range of stories, but introduces some serendipity as the story sources are not hardwired like a traditional RSS reader.

I didn't think I would like it that much, but it has surprised me. It's been my favorite way to read news for a while now, with aggregators filling rounding it out.

My fiancee as an iPhone, so I may give it a go on hers; thanks for the recommendation.

Yeah, give it a whirl, but imo, the app gets better the more time you spend with it, because you get to see the serendipity of new, related articles popping up from sources that you have not seen before.

For any given topic, like technology for instance, it's going to cover the major trending topics and include the obvious players as far as tech blogs, but smaller unknown ones will often pop into the stream over time. That's what I like about it.

Come to think of it, it's kind of like Hubksi's being able to adjust how many unfollowed users pop into your stream :)

I tend to read a lot of psychology and philosophy blogs. Of course, I'm also interested in my own content which is along the same lines: http://agaponzie.blogspot.com/2012/07/developing-will-power....

Curious, what are some of the other psychology and philosophy blogs that you read, other than you own?
by agaponzie 314 days ago  ·  link
The content is broad, but lately I've been reading ryanholiday.net. While he's not really a philospher or psychologist, his content is strongly influenced by both disciplines. I've also been following BJ Fogg and Kelly McGonigal, both of whom are psychologists at Stanford, the former studying persuasion, and the latter studying the science behind will power.

Thanks, I'll check out those blogs, as well as yours. Good luck with it and welcome to Hubski. "The science behind will power", sounds like an interesting topic.

I tend to happen upon an interesting blog while Stumbling on Stumbleupon. Blogspot has many good ones. It doesn't mean that I may ever see that blog again unless I sign into blogspot.

The other way is through Flipboard's curation set, they feature many cool blogs though their names escape me.

My favorite is triplesequitur. I love making cocktails and I also love to read and this blog satisfies both of these loves. The link I just provided is a bit regionally specific but you can still get an idea of the passion cW has for mixology.

The other blogs that I read are sourced from Hubski. I read JakobVirgil's blog, I read lil's blog and I'm sure I'm forgetting some that I read regularly here.

Aside: shameless plug for my little sisters blog about raising a family in Detroit: blog

I get most things through Twitter or Google+ i usually sign up to the blogs feeds through RSS google reader but find myself using twitter google+ reddit/ Hubski or Facebook for content delivery only going to said blog via a link to read the full article.

Blogging has changed everyone is a contributor to the discussion now so blogging will soon become a topic starting point rather than the source of the information. Instead of bloggers getting the source then blogging about it people are now the source

Vinyl Obscurity http://vinylobscurity.blogspot.com/ This guy digs out the best old new wave, electronic and gothy type music of all time. There are lots of other music blogs that all have their own focus that I look at at least once a month.

The only two blogs I read are:

Too Busy Thinking About My Comics for in-depth critiques on the wonderful world of comics.

And Requires Only That You Hate, which offers reviews of SciFi and Fantasy books with a focus on race and sex relations. Really good stuff, even if you haven't read the books, which I didn't.

A few that I visit more than others:

Venkatesh Rao's ribbonfarm is usually very thought provoking.

I read James Maliszewski's Grognardia for old school rpg goodness.

Jason Kottke's kottke.org is usually worth a look for light-hearted things of interest.

I peruse Crooked Timber when I'm in the mood for highbrow leftist angst.

These are fantastic, thank you. I hope you don't mind but I'm taking the rest of the night to explore...
