As a reminder, if you're willing and able, please join us for a social media blitz sharing the best of hubski with the world.

Twitter, Facebook, blogs, youtube, vimeo - if you use it, use it to get the word out about hubski. Please do it respectfully, and don't overly spam any one person or site.

We all love hubski for various reasons. Let's share those reasons with the world, tomorrow, Monday July 9, all day.

Hi. Long-time lurker here. I have be the voice of dissent and ask why are we doing this? I look at the populace sites, Digg and Reddit and I see everything that Hubski is not, and frankly I'm glad it's not. The front page of Reddit is a meme-machine and Digg is a joke. I really like Hubski, because I get intelligent pages without having to browse several sub-reddits. I have nothing against everyone's Facebook friends, but Facebook and Youtube users do not tend to submit quality intelligent posts, ( I know this is a generalization ).

I submit a different approach. Instead of targeting large sites with plenty of users, why not mention Hubski in smaller more intelligent, forums and sites. Places where you know the people are quality. Quality over quantity. That, I think will keep the site what it is for longer.

excellent point. I had some mixed feelings about the whole thing - and I'm the one who started it. I love this place. I love it the way it is. But I guess I was curious what kind of bump we could get from a blitz. Here's hoping we added more insightful people than not.

Thanks xandor. I can appreciate that sentiment. I am not keen on Hubski turning into another common news/meme aggregator. However, as thenewgreen mentioned, the intent is that by following select people, you can sustain the kind of site that you want even as other users might be sharing trivial junk.

There are plenty of places for the trivial. However I think it would be a poor design if we could only keep Hubski quality by keeping it small. If you are only experiencing Hubski through the lurk page, what you see and what I see are somewhat different. You might want to follow a few people or tags that you appreciate, and give building a feed a try.

Hey xandor, good to see you come out from beyond the curtain. Why do this? That is a completely valid question and it's one that I've definitely thought about. The truth is that most people that visit and post sub-par content don't stay long because they don't get shares or comments. Either that or they start changing the type of things they post, which is cool. Also, in theory you could maintain the same quality of a feed if you followed the right people. I notice that you're not following anyone currently and are relying solely on the "lurk" feed. If you ever found that the lurk feed was not what you hoped, I would suggest following some Hubskiers that you know post/share quality content.

All this said, I would be really glad to know about where you might suggest we focus our efforts aside from the mainstream social media sites? I'm all ears and I agree that this might be a better approach. I have mentioned Hubski on TED forums in the past and it seemed to bring some great contributors to the site. I have also done this in NPR forums, but beyond that I don't really know where else I could do so?

I'm all ears and I couldn't agree more "Quality over quantity". -100%!

The most effective word of mouth is from you to a friend though. Thats been my experience.

Thanks for the comment, see ya around!

Good over here. I've been sharing away. Really, I've been spending most of my time Hubskiing ;-) reading articles, checking out some great photography.

A hubski plug from insomniasexx made it in to my Facebook stream ;-) that was cool.

I have had a few friends join - but mostly it has been through direct asking rather than any sort of social networks I have used to promote. I think it's because I'm not a heavy user of the other networks. I was hoping some of you with massive blog, twitter or facebook followings, might be able to swing a bunch of traffic in. Who knows. I guess we'll see what happens.

what are we doing?

In a word? Evangelize. We're trying to get hubski noticed. We want to get the word out about what a great place this is. Get out there on the social networks of your choice and start tweeting, blogging, youtubing, and facebooking. Share links to your favorite arties or discussions on hubski.

We are just reaching out via various social media and letting people know about Hubski. I'm personally going to email some friends that I think would like Hubski and having them check it out.

Alright, so far I've done some tweeting, I've invited a shit-ton of Facebook people and I have shared a relevant link at TED.
