How 30 days without Social Media changed my life

30 days ago, I made the decision to give up social media for a month. Well, here I am, reporting that I'm still alive and that the past month has been life changing.

Social media has its place, but it certainly isn't the all encompassing driving force that the social media "experts" would want us to believe.

I agree. I had a friend invite me to join a fb forum about 2 months ago. It's called Political Asylum and it's literally the opposite of my experience on Hubski. The members are pretty misogynistic and are radically conservative. I'm one of the "lefties" in the group and in most other groups I've been in I'd be a centrist or perhaps even conservative.

I found that it was taking too much of my time and a few weeks ago I quit. I noticed that I was much happier not reading all the hate filled vitriol that these types of forums promote.

Admittedly, I'm back on it occasionally just because my friend has some interesting and funny commentary there. I'm trying to get him on Hubski, I think he would be a welcome voice here. -I think he'll be at the Hubski gathering. It's nice to have more people from the right to lend informed but opposing view points. cliffelam has been a great source for this imo. -Thanks Cliff!

Anyways, you are right, it's not all encompassing and giving it up can be really good for you. All things in moderation, right?

    All things in moderation, right?

Agreed. All things in moderation. Except hate. I don't think it is good in any dosage.

if you going to hate do it all at once

Well, yeah. Hard to argue against that :-)

These folks can make a good case against it.

No more linking to them ;-) they don't deserve our time.

Agreed. That is why I linked to wikipedia instead of their page. :)

Good call on wiki -- If these people want to waste their short lives submerged in anger, well... that's just sad.

But you're right.... They suck. In fact, I hate them... Oh wait.

something facebook is finding out.

Y'know, I'm tempted to give it a try.

Go for it. I was unplugged for 6 months last year.

Its not that hard. Until Hubski, I went 29 years without social media. My growth was stunted slightly (I'm 5'8" in a family of 6+ footers), but other than that, there were no long term effects.

    quit hoarding information

Thank you for helping me redefine a serious ailment of mine that's been hounding me for far too long now!

I've long viewed myself as addicted to the gathering of information, but to rephrase it as the hoarding of information spins it in the light that I should've seen it as being from the start.

I think it's time to sit down and take a look at what other issues that I've been defining in a favourable light that should be seen as so.
