A car that offends me.

I was just reading through the comments to steve's post about buying a new car, and it brought to mind a conversation that I had with b_b some time ago. It was about the car that I liked least.

This is it:

The 1994 Buick Skylark.

The very first time I saw this car on the road, I was shocked. The wrap-around bumper conjures the image of a amusement park bumper car, and the triangular front, which has the almost-interesting effect of offsetting the front plate, actually works with the headlights and air intake to give the car an anthropomorphic expression of a sad, dim grimace, that perfectly suits the Skylark's totally uninspired design.

I can understand why people in need might buy a used one for transportation, but I cannot for the life of me understand what would have possessed someone (aside from a powerful self-loathing) to drive a new one of these beasts off the lot.

It might sound a bit much, but I really cannot think of an uglier car. Maybe it has to do with growing up in Detroit, but I'm curious, does anyone else have similar strong negative reaction to another car?

this car in my opinion looks like a middle aged man attempting to rollerblade for the first time, wearing every type of pad and protective wear imaginable. A car that's trying too hard to be sporty and safe at the same time. The result is nothing short of awkward and ugly. The Aztec's must be ashamed of where their legacy has landed.

My dad worked for GM when they brought the Aztec out. It was so unpopular they couldn't sell them to employees at cost. The rear end of the thing always makes me think of cats in heat, truly one of the all time ugliest cars. Every time I see one on the road I laugh. I know I have laughed in the face of people getting in or out of one in parking lots. I'm sure they just think I'm crazy, but looking at that thing makes me feel awed and dumbstruck, can't do anything but laugh at the idea of owning one of those things.

Ever seen this? It looks like it has cancer.

I like how they parked it in front of graffiti to give it credibility.

It's funny you post about it: my brother and I used to call that car a "fat pad" when it first came out!

Wow, that is bad. It looks like if you drive too fast the top might pop off.

Oh god, what have they done... It is hideous.

Yeah, that's pretty brutal.

I just saw this ugly beast on the road today. Reminds me of this.

I don't know, I almost have to respect the Cube for flying in the face of symmetry. I don't think the Cube looks that great, but I'd like to asymmetric designs explored some more.

Its like they took the same year Pontiac Bonneville, and managed to make it uglier.

I think this was about the same time that the Ford Mustang started to resemble the Escort. It was a dark time for American cars.
