In the video they used an image of an open road, but I think we would more realistically start seeing this in cities first. The led lighting would make a great cross walk. I just watched a lecture about the future of roads and this same startup was highlighted in the presentation. The lecture is by Bjarke Ingels and this time he collaborated with Audi....

Wouldn't wet glass be dangerously slippery?

I've thought about piezoelectric road surfaces, but I'm not sure how much electricity you could get there. I've also wondered about cars with magnets that induced currents...

It's an interesting challenge.

There are ways to make glass non-slippery - but all increase costs, and most would reduce light transfer, too. There are lots of things wrong with this idea, I admit. I still like the fact that they are thinking big.

Piezoelectrics would be an interesting way of generating more power from smart roads, too.
