An interesting breakdown of the electoral college. I would be interested to hear your arguments for or against this institution.

I see no reason to keep the electoral college. The popular vote is a way to ensure that my vote matters. What happens to the democrats that live in South Carolina or the Republicans in New York? Their votes are essentially worthless. The argument is made that the EC allows for smaller states to have influence but I don't think that really happens. Their influence comes from their congressman. Also, I'm not sure I'm willing to sacrifice my influence to ensure that a state gets theirs.

Abolishing the EC is long overdue, the point was made here by kleinbl00 that the electoral college effectively eliminates the ability of a 3rd party candidate to win. Want to ensure we remain a two party system? -then keep the EC. The DEM and GOP's know this so unless we as a nation kick and scream it's not going anywhere.

. this is an area that I think the Tea Party and the OWS movement could agree. I say we unite.

I've always thought there were a number of issues that the OWS movement and the Tea Party could unify around. But the OWS movement has little leadership and seem reluctant to choose any sort of objectives and the Tea Party has been co-opted by the Koch Brothers and are no longer a "grass roots" organization.

But you're right, they could get a lot more done on the national scene if they abandoned party politics and banded together to accomplish common objectives like campaign finance reform and abolishing the Electoral College and our two party system.

I always think of the Native American's that could have easily defeated the European colony's if they had just banded together and didn't fight against one another. That's the way I feel about the OWS movement and the TP.
