My parents went an underwater photography exhibition in Oceanside yesterday.

They brought back a catalog of the winners. They are so cool, especially the macro ones.

Here's some of my favorites, pulled from random places around the web.

Bobtail Squid at Night - Todd Bretl - Nikon d7000 - Nikon AF-S Micro-Nikkor 60mm f/2.8G ED Macro Autofocus Lens - 1/320th sec @ f/11

Nicholas Samaras

Phil Sokol - Lion Fish

Douglas Hoffman - Amazing looking whales.

Matthew Meier - gallery found here

Steve Eilenberg

I LOVE this one: Scott McGee - Bioluminescent Surf

Surreal photoshop stuff. Amazing Conor Culver - Ink of the Octopus is my absolute fave

And my phone just rang. Gotta run. Will do more when I have a fucking moment to relax.

I actually liked the first link the best. That "Bobtail Squid" looks like it's surrounded in blueberries. Beautiful.

Yeah. It's amazing.

So the squid is a tiny little bugger - typically 1-8cm. The photographer just got lucky as it swam about an inch from his lens. The effect of the lighting is from the 2 lights he has mounted on each side of his lens.
