To the people in that society, it would look like business as usual, since these things tend to take, at least, several generations to happen. The Wikipedia page on societal collapse describes some of the features of a collapsing society along with several models for previous collapses.
I'd agree with that. I too often quote Barbara Tuchman's Law regarding this. I now also wonder if it is possible for the US to collapse without a more global collapse taking place. Or, at the least, that the US be part of a 'Developed World Collapse'. With the inter-connectivity of global economics, and with the US's abundant resources, I would think that the rest of the world would have to be involved.To the people in that society, it would look like business as usual, since these things tend to take, at least, several generations to happen.
