- Bernie Sanders is said to be surging, Joe Biden is considering jumping in the race, and Hillary Rodham Clinton’s unfavorable ratings are the worst they’ve been in her 23-plus years in national politics — worse than they were in 2007 or 2008.
NYTimes and other sites get ads through an ad network. The advertisers may choose to have their ads on certain types of stories or stories with certain keywords. For example, if I were Hillary, I wouldn't put my ads on gossip stories about pre-teen movie stars, I would put them on political stories or stories about Hillary. So, no. It's not exactly a conflict of interest as the author of the story and the NYTimes in general is not choosing to publish or not publish or alter a story based on the advertisers (at least in one specific case.) The conflicts of interest are actually much larger, broader, and engrained in the editorial culture. Even then though it's more unintentional bias rather than direct conflict of interest.
No doubt there. The story and it's ads seem a bit heavyhanded and it bugs me.The conflicts of interest are actually much larger, broader, and engrained in the editorial culture.
Agreed. I'm not sure if it is the case here, but on mobile your ads are even more tailored to your device / browsing history. Never, ever look at jewelry online while not in incognito. I am being followed by sparkly diamonds everywhere I go right now. It makes reading anything hard as I keep getting distracted. oooh sparkles
Your birthday is tomorrow I feel like that should be my browsing history... Fortunately I planned ahead ;)... Mostly
Hillary will never be president. If, and I mean IF she wins the primary, every Hillary hater will write a giant check to defeat her and her campaign will be buried in negative ads that will distract her from any positive strategy. We will see the first $10Billion presidential campaign. If Sanders win the primary, everything will be up in the air. I'm convinced that the winner of the Democratic primary is not yet running; the winner will jump into the ring in later October get a ton of media and the whole thing is going to shift. I kinda hope Webb runs and wins ever since Wesley Clark came out in favor of re-education camps for "terrorists." This election is already a shit show and it is not going to get better.
