Feminists have been trying to lower standards of evidence in cases of alleged sexual assault and pushing for colleges to increase conviction rates at the expense of the accused's right to a fair trial. They're responsible for creating the current "rape culture" hysteria that's making campuses dangerous places for male students.
A "fair trial?" At what point ever have university's dealt out punishment after a "fair trial?" I've been punished in many different academic contexts without ever encountering such a thing. It would seem to me that rapists have always been given an undue privilege in academic proceedings if it is any otherwise. Basically your argument is, it's fine for universities to deal out punishment arbitrarily in any other case, but if they go after a rapist, they need to meet a much higher standard. Getting people that cheat on tests kicked out of school is all fine and well, but we need to protect rapists?
No, my argument is that people who are accused of being rapists shouldn't be considered guilty until proven innocent, and should be given the chance to defend themselves. Universities shouldn't even be investigating these cases, that's a job for the police. This article explains why this is happening and why it's wrong, and lists some of the actions that have been taken to put a stop to this injustice.“The university showed less than zero concern for disrupting his life and career and branding him a criminal based on an extremely low standard of evidence, and has shown zero inclination to be remorseful about what it has done,” the group said.
In the 19-page letter sent in 2011 to schools and colleges nationwide, Russlynn Ali, assistant secretary for civil rights, said, “[I]n order for a school’s grievance procedures to be consistent with Title IX standards, the school must use a preponderance of the evidence standard (i.e., it is more likely than not that sexual harassment or violence occurred).”
You've missed the only point that I made, shockingly. A university disciplines its students outside of a court framework; it is not a court and not a trial. If you want to join a club that accepts rape from its members, make your own club and define the rules as such.
Rape is illegal, right? It should have nothing to do with the "rules of the club" or some kangaroo college court. Rape is a crime that should be investigated by police, tried in courts and punished by the criminal justice system. Rape should not be treated like plagiarizing an essay or cheating on a test. Why would feminists support anything less than that?
You certainly have the right of it Grendel. I like you more and more every post I read.
