Interesting indeed. I'm used to hearing figures on how much space the world's population would take up if they were standing shoulder to shoulder. It's nice to have a visual representation that's actually grounded in something I can picture and imaging living in.
Part of me wishes that this were true. Can you imagine the other pristine remainder of the globe? It would almost be like a metropolis surrounded by a Garden of Eden. Well, except for the agriculture. I wonder how big that would need to be.
You also have to wonder what the effect upon society and humanity would be. My guess is that people would get along much better if everyone's house was within several hour's travel time.

The point seems to be that people find grievances, whether it's over "holy lands" or Hatfields and McCoys, there's always a squabble. Get 6.9 billion people on top of one another and those squabbles will turn in to battles pretty quickly.

I have no data to back this up, but I recall there being a study that showed that the warmer the climate, the more hostile the civilizations. I'll go digging for it -- Not sure about population density though. Animals in captivity tend to get more hostile as their enclosure spaces are smaller.

Great maps! This confirms two things I kind of already knew- Paris is awesome, and Houston sucks. It would be interesting to see exactly how these maps were made. City boundaries are sometimes arbitrary and don't necessarily describe the real feeling of density in a city. I would like to see the world's population according to housing typologies - like 40 story towers, or 6 story housing blocks (like Paris).

Hey hey hey you can't judge a city by its population density! Houston is one of the best cities in Texas in my opinion. But yeah Houston is extremely spread out.
