Studios are scared to invest in films that don't already have a built-in market. When these studios make a sequel to a popular franchise, they know they are going to make a shitload of money. They don’t have that feeling of security with original film productions.

"Be the change you want to see in the world" - a quote I often see attributed to Gandhi. To it, I would add "Expect to make little individual difference - and be okay with that". So many people shut down because they feel that they make no individual change, and we need to remember that it's not about us as individuals.
