Oh, Bobby. How far you've come since demanding that your party not be the "party of stupid".
I like it here in Louisiana but God do we elect some backwards, soulcrushing bottomfeeders. On behalf of the few sane coonasses here I apologize for this sad little man. Such a piece of shit you wish Huey Long would rise from his grave.
I think this might be the first time I've ever seen a Republican put this so bluntly. This strategy requires populist social conservatives to ally with the business community on economic matters and corporate titans to side with social conservatives on cultural matters.
But it reveals a shortcoming in his thinking. Namely, he seems to be unaware that the coalition exists at the pleasure of the business community. And the business community doesn't give a fuck about conservative Christians. They care about their bottom line, and nothing more. That conservative Christians have been duped into thinking that they have an ideological ally and not simply an opportunistic one is the fault of conservative Christians and no one else. Aside from the human rights aspect, the next best thing about the same sex marriage debate is the way it is ripping this monster's two heads apart. They have so few mutual interests that it's a surprise that they've lasted for this long. Hopefully, the coalition is in its death throes, although I doubt it; given the gerrymandered nature of the House, they could last another few election cycles.
Exactly. We're filthy with that down here. Our senate race was filled with candidates whose policies would be unrecognizable ten years (or in Jindal's case a few months) ago. People who might have once given even a small shit for the average Joe but have since sold their souls and pulled a 180 on any talking point that doesn't tow the elite's line. Until the money is capped or removed altogether I fear little will change.
