Attention is a resource; a person has only so much of it. And yet we’ve auctioned off more and more of our public space to private commercial interests, with their constant demands on us to look at the products on display or simply absorb some bit of corporate messaging.
It isn't a crime to advertise. It's not a crime to request attention, and people can easily ignore those who are doing so. Advertisements aren't trying to get you to pay attention, they aren't trying to get you to focus, or to think. They aren't draining some valuable resource from your mind like some sort of mental vampires.
