Often when I'm listening to music I'm also doing something else, so I simply can't pay full attention to both. Also, I sometimes find it too hard to make lyrics out, so knowing the lyrics is a matter of actively searching for them online. The only band I do this for on a large scale is Steely Dan - because I love their music and find that knowing the lyrics gives them a lot more meaning. They're well known for dark and sarcastic lyrics.

I listened to this while not doing anything else, so I could pay attention to the lyrics. I suppose it comes down to a distinction between music that I use as background noise and music I actively listen to, and I only really started listening to music within the last two years. So I know the lyrics to a lot of Dire Straits, The Police and Cansei de Ser Sexy, but nothing I just put on to add atmosphere. This song was pretty good, and the lyrics were easy to make out.
