Man, what a dream job that would've been back then. So many innovations came out of that place. Laser, the transistor, C, UNIX, the list goes on! Apparently funding has been cut a lot, and they're not as productive any more. What a shame.

I feel like we've moved from a research/development centered economy in a lot of ways and it's really disappointing. Why are there so few investors doing R & D now? I can think of a few, 3M, IBM, HP, but overall it seems like companies are beholden to non-risk investments which don't drive their company forward, and stifle innovation. Maybe I'm wrong, I don't know, it's just a feeling. I don't think any society can sustain itself without the constant exploration of science.
