Spent the day shooting a commercial at the Sybil Brand Institute, a defunct women's prison for LA County. Buddy of mine even brought a harmonica.

i would recommend you straighten the shot will allow the eye to focus more on the person

That you? Nice shot, cool use of lines. If ever a place begged for a harmonica... It's a prison.

Earthquake took it out: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sybil_Brand_Institute

Your photo led me to look for other uses of silhouette in photography and I ended up learning about Desining from Left to Right: http://www.nottodayblog.com/2011/09/designing-from-left-to-r...

Hell yes you should. I'm not really much of a redditor, so I didn't know anything about you when you first joined Hubski. I remember thinking, it will be nice to have a photographer on the site. That was right when you went on your road trip and you were posting some of your shots. I enjoy seeing/hearing/reading peoples original compositions. Dig 'em up.

Beautiful. I like how the clouds can hang so low in the valley. Makes me miss the view from my deck in Missoula.

Really nice. Where is this one from?

It looks like the Northern Rockies.

by mk 485 days ago  ·  link
Ah, close to Bellingham. I've been to Bellingham a couple of times. It's beautiful there.

The Northwest is probably be the most likely place we'd end up if we were to leave Michigan. Mountains are the one thing that we sadly lack. The UP has some beautiful terrain that approaches mountains, but it's old, old rock. Actually, some of the oldest on earth.

There is something about when mountains and water are in the same place.

Someday, I just want to head into Canada and drive and drive.

My wife and I met in Bellingham. She graduated from there. It's my happy place.

I recall you mentioning a coffee shop there.

She didn't happen to go to WWU did she? My pal taught math there for a few years.

by kleinbl00 484 days ago  ·  link
...awesome. She graduated magna cum laude from WWU with a degree in math.

I was a math prof at wwu from 1999-2010. When was you wife there?
by kleinbl00 484 days ago  ·  link
That rules. Think she graduated in '97, though.

You guys definitely knew some of the same people. I was there for two and a half years; i still have extremely fond memories of professor Curgus.

Yeah, mike is the guy.

Seriously, 11 years?!

Most people would have avoided the plant in the picture of you and your wife, I like that you used it to frame you guys. Dave on Mr. Wilson is a crazy shot, I can't figure out what I'm seeing but I dig it.

"MOUNT" Wilson, not "MISTER" Wilson.

There's an observatory up there. Also some radio antennas: http://farm2.staticflickr.com/1397/1234893689_c924585d52_b_d...

It overlooks Los Angeles. As in, all of it.

That was back in the old days. Had Dave climb up on the fence, popped him twice with an external flash with a red filter on it, then had him climb down and let the city fill in. It's a garden-variety in-camera double exposure.

I've no idea why I wrote mr.? That said, if you have any photo's of your friend Dave on Mister Wilson... please keep them to yourself.

That photo of the observatory is other-worldly.
