This update solves a few problems, and opens up a few possibilities.
You can now create tags unique to yourself. As an example, you can see the #blog.hubski tag above.
To create a personal tag, simply add an @ symbol to the end of a tag. For example, if your username is oscar, blog@ will convert to #blog.oscar upon submission.
Personal tags can be followed and ignored just like other tags. Community tags cannot be personalized.
As always, feedback is much appreciated!
I'm a little foggy too. So we can tag a post with our own tag, and everybody else can see it but not edit it?
Right now I post a lot of my own music under #tng but from here on out I will use originalmusic@thenewgreen -Nobody else can take that, muddy it up with their own posts etc. -People can follow it. Also, what if #photography becomes too watered down for you, but you love kleinbl00's photography? This way you can ignore photography and follow photography@kleinbl00. I imagine there are a number of other uses people will come up with. Give it a whirl. I went back and edited some of them to #originalmusic.thenewgreen
1) Personal tags should not count towards the two tag limit 2) What would be absolutely amazing is the ability to invite other people to use your personal tag too. Like suppose I write/share links on politics and I would like to collaborate with some other users who also share high quality content. I could create #politics.casebash and then users could follow our group. Content discovery is currently the hardest aspect of Hubski. Finding users to follow takes time, but if different users can collaborate on the one private tag, then this will be much easier
I agree with tng that it's a very interesting idea. I want to ruminate on it for some time. When it comes to things like this, I've found that they often become the kernel for something that reduces complexity, but adds functionality. I'd like to think about tags and users in general in light of something like this. Thanks for the idea.
It's a really interesting idea. It could both promote community groups and more quality content. It could also be used as a way to be a jerk to someone by not including them. There is a gated nature to it, but not totally since anyone could comment on it. Worth considering for sure.
Could there be a place on a users profile that links to "all personal tags"?
