I like the sparseness of the song though and the use of the female/male vocal dichotomy. I liked it. It's charming.
This will sound shallow, but I liked The XX a lot more before I knew what their "image" was. I stumbled upon their album by accident back "before it was cool" and thought it was pretty good, especially "Crystalised." But when I looked up the video it was quite jarring. Somehow it diminished my enjoyment of the song. Silly but true.

I don't think it sounds shallow. A video is an art form that the artist presumably has a hand in guiding. If this is their visual representation of what their music means to them it ought to have an impact on you. Not shallow at all.
