Is it though? I mean, the woman itself is eerie, but my understanding of the way these AIs work is that the opposite of a bunch of prompts could have also been anything else. It just happens to clump the traits "woman, brown hair, pronounced cheekbones, horror" together in a negative corner.

Personally I am much more terrified of the power that these models give to people to do awful things. Disinformation campaigns, online harassment, scandal fabrication, you name it.

I don't think that the AI model itself is terrifying (necessarily).

People's inputs to that model (as pertaining to ... harmful outcomes), yeah, could be quite unsavory and dangerous.

However.

Loab is terrifying.

The explanation that made sense to me is that's it's a local minima, like local minima around Starry Night or the Mona Lisa that make those paintings keep appearing in descendant images for many generations, except this local minima is negatively weighted to lots of things and is surrounded by gore.

I'll agree with you in daylight but with demure at night

I am literally going to use some of those images for my unknowable horrors in a tabletop RPG.

Eerie to the extreme.
