(I live! Impending pubski update some time today. Been a pretty rough few months but a good past few weeks. Hopefully I'll be less of a stranger again).
I've been trying to get back into actual songwriting with lyrics, and have been trying to write a full song every day, no matter how good or bad it is or whether it fits into any projects I'm working on. Here's a quick demo of one I wrote and recorded this morning, which I think turned out nicely (even if it is a bit too... musical theater-y for my taste).
They never tell you that aliens are kind of boring
They take you and see how you run, then you wake up back home
If they knew anything they would never set foot in Ohio
But oh God, if you take me away, please take me for good
The sitter lets me stay up late sometimes watching old movies
So I won't tell mom when her boyfriend comes over with beer
I seen how those big saucers fly and I think i could steer one
I'm free for the taking so please, God, take it from here
I got twenty three hits when I cut down the corn
But how can you find me unless I leave you a sign?
When my old man lived here we would fix up old motors to sell 'em
So if you need me to work on your ship, I'll be totally fine
They never tell you that aliens are bad at driving
And they can't read that good which is why they've been taking so long
But I've got my bag packed and I'm ready whenever they find me
And they take me away to wherever it is I belong.
