Yeah a buddy added me to his Youtube TV "family" for a while so now I can't open youtube without a popup begging me to pay them to rejoin a service I never used. You don't pay $20 a month to make popups go away, Google.

I've run Plex for like 12 years now. It eats your data if you're driving around streaming which sucks. And it hashes your synced files so that nothing else can play them - it would have been so easy if Plex had just dumped stuff somewhere you could find it and play it with, say, Doubletwist. On the plus side, for the past three years the Plex music player hasn't been unusable. It still kinda sucks if you're talking about Tidal integration in that Tidal might have a track as FLAC but Plex will crank it down to 128kbps MP3 because Plex has been busy buying the rights to a bunch of shitty movies no one wants so they can offer them to you for free instead of working to make their relationships with paying partners work.

It sounds like the music experience on Plex isn't first class, so I'll give a Subsonic flavor a spin first. Forget paying $120/yr to rent music for the rest of my life.

It is first and foremost a way to watch your torrented vids on your Xbox/Playstation. It excels at that. Music is radically better than it was but they're definitely a video-forward platform.

I support your music rental viewpoint. I give Tidal money for the principle reason that I'm discovering new music. I used to spend an easy $500/600 a year on music.
