This is weird. I agree that this is a good idea. But I did not implement it unless in an amnesic state of altered personality.

Can you tell me where you saw this?

I will make the change in a cognizant manner soon.

UPDATE:

This is not something I want. If you want to do it for whatever reason, make it a toggle a user has to opt in to. Here’s your case test - bfv.

You own your Content, and you retain your rights to all Content you make available to the Services.

Going “user-inactivated” and all that comes with that is my decision.

Agreed. See my comment above.

This is a good opportunity to say thank you for writing a privacy and TOS statement that’s not all legal jargon and lost in vague, meaningless phrases. So, thank you for grounding your statements in reality, mk.

Thank you, BfE. I appreciate that.

It's bikeexpert's comment on this post that KB linked to today:

bikeexpert hasn't deleted his account.

He still follows me, which means he never has. He wouldn't be green if he'd deleted his account 'cuz it purges all your follows. He would have had to re-follow me, which I would have been notified of via email.

You're seeing a glitch and attributing it to policy. Which is okay, except that it's a policy that I vehemently oppose and would quit using this site immediately over.

This is weird. I agree that this is a good idea.

Why don't you ask so that you can disregard 140 comments before making it permanent?

Interesting

I was having the “can’t reply to a post bc the box closes as soon as I hit discuss” bug the other day — but ctrl-r fixed it

Maybe the site has finally developed some sentience of its own, after all these years of hosting our - thoughtful discussions

That used to be the way it was, if you'll remember, but then due to complaining by people who wanted to quit, it was changed to the "user-inactivated" thing. I personally don't like u-a, but I can see the merits of either system. Say a very private person gets their identity compromised, and they don't want a written record of everything they've said anonymously available to the world. I can see that person wanting to blow it all up. On the other hand, it's really annoying when you're looking at an old conversation and can't follow it, because you don't know who posted what. Pros and cons.

I was ten minutes from deleting all my content.

People who haven't had randos on the internet threaten to rape and murder your loved ones can underestimate the importance of being able to break search. "random shit said by user-inactivated" is not useful when you're trying to terrorize someone but "random shit said by kleinbl00" is all the Keyboard Kommandos need.

Although it's not the reigning tech ethos, "safety first" it's rarely a bad policy.
