Putting aside that she is clearly not a good or honest person, and that faith based anything should not receive government money unless it pays government taxes... putting all that aside there is definitely an argument to supporting private schools somewhat.

They serve an important role in communities and are not easily replaced. There are areas where private is the only functioning education system at any price point. If they die then a chunk of people will have to leave and move elsewhere, and doctors/lawyers and other professionals will have to move elsewhere to educate their kids.

Ahh, schools: the Schroedinger's Cat of libertarianism, simultaneously valueless and essential.

A private school is worth what the market will pay for it. If the market must be subsidized then that subsidy must be available to all taxpayers so we come up with vouchers and then we point out that vouchers help the rich at the expense of the poor.

I have a kid at private school and I worked on Waiting for Superman. And I want all the money to go to the school my kid doesn't go to 'cuz that's a population that's much more at risk, that's much more likely to need a leg up, is much more likely to use public services and is much more likely to vote Trump if someone doesn't give 'em some tutelage.

We don't need to give money to private schools, we need to federalize the education system.

Agree but covid breaks the idea of markets because covid based lockdown is the equivalent of a government caused CAT 5 hurricane. Everything breaks when you force business to shut down but rent is still due. So now you get to decide who to rescue with lifeboats and helicopters and who should drown. Is a private school worth saving? Idk maybe is my Anwser. Private school in New York probably not but private school in the south where there are no alternatives.... maybe as it serves as a community anchor.

Although if the institution is worth saving then bankruptcy is truly the better choice because the community will rally around it and save it afterwards but saving a company before bankruptcy is just a pass through for creditors.

Dude. Private schools keep getting paid during COVID. My kid's does. I've given 'em three payments since the doors closed and my kid has been to virtual school hell five days a week.

The private schools are the ones most likely to have kids who can adapt to virtual school.

I guess that’s true I didn’t think about virtual since my kid is younger. I’ve paid mine like 2k so far for basically nothing. I would think that would cover rent since they fired all the teachers.

Actually I agree. But devos will try to use that grey area to just straight up fine money into expensive suburban religious schools. Notice she is trying to get this rule to not have any restrictions on tuition rate or average income of the parents, e.g..
