Damn. There goes any chance for real improvement for the government in my lifetime.
Shit.
Hol' up. We aren't even at November yet. That sentiment would make more sense if we electric boogaloo Trump. In the case we don't have four more years of 45 in the White House: 1) Biden's come out of hibernation with a blue machine at his back. Wait to see how cabinet positions play out. 2) No faith in Bernie steering the conversation over the span of a couple POTUS election cycles? Grampy Berns hits a few of yer marks there. There goes any chance for real improvement for the government in my lifetime.
It's been pointed out that Biden is running on a platform substantially to the left of everywhere Biden has been in his career - thereby demonstrating that the hard tugs of the Left have definitely recentered his campaign. Frankly if I had to choose between voting for Mitch McConnell over Donald Trump I would hold my nose and vote for Mitch Fucking McConnell. At least he comes to work. Biden has never excited me, and he's been a perpetual candidate since I was in seventh fucking grade. But I mean... I rooted for fucking Dukakis. I canvassed for Kerry. And about ten days after my eighteenth birthday I voted Bush 1 out of office and holy fuck that was intoxicating. Warren and Sanders have taken my money but I'll vote goddamn Gabbard if i have to.
There is absolutely zero chance that Biden can beat Trump. There is not a single person that voted fo Trump that would vote for Obama=the=Evil's Vice President. Biden is a wuss. He's flustered and addled. And he doesn't stand for anything. He has zero talent to speak off the cuff, and to counter the unrelenting stream of lies and bullshit that we KNOW will be spewing from Trump's facehole during the debates. At least with Warren, when Trump went fully bully-mode, you'd see Trump women joining with Warren in solidarity against a male attacker. Trump and his cronies have spent three years stacking the deck - the courts, gerrymandering key districts, the AG and the Supreme Court are just Republican banana republics, and they put cronies and complete assholes in key electoral decision-making roles. They are about to solidify that for the next GENERATION with a completely so poorly mis-managed Census, that the Democrats won't even win in their home districts with a majority of votes. So Trump gets re-elected. More of the same happens. EVEN IF an interesting/alive Democratic candidate can be found in the mid 2020-2030 timeframe, the system will be so completely rigged that there's no way they could win. MOST IMPORTANTLY, an ENTIRE GENERATION of Americans will have grown up under completely non-functioning, authoritarian Republican rulers, and will not know anything different. Will not even be able to comprehend how things could be better. (I already see this today. People younger than me don't see any functioning part of government at all, while I saw pollution in Los Angeles basically ENDED, national parks preserved (and lost again), and the fall of the fossil fuel industry to superior technologies. All due to government programs. Shit... I remember when insane homeless people actually had places to go and get care, rather than just become sidewalk speedbumps.) Shit, that's true even today. So yeah. I'm gonna make it to about 80. That's another 7.5 presidents. Oh well.
You are presuming that (1) voter turnout remains constant (2) Trump-the-hypothetical has the same approval rating as Trump-the-actual (3) there was no personal animus towards Hilary Clinton. There is absolutely zero chance that Biden can beat Trump. There is not a single person that voted fo Trump that would vote for Obama=the=Evil's Vice President.
Unacceptable. Another instance of our American culture showing a shockingly low amount of regard for truth or the people who speak it, and the national attention span is now perhaps shorter than one (1) Tweet. I have to take as much solace as possible in the fact that the Biden and Sanders admins would include a lot of the same people. Liz is probably a shoe-in for VP though, either way, right? Watching Veep is about to pay off!
Yeah it's been fuckin' weird watching everybody pretend that they didn't kick Joe out of the clubhouse for plagiarism thirty fucking years ago. Joe Biden's loose experience with the truth and with promises is a major subthread of George Packer's The Great Unwinding. Like, the book literally follows a disillusioned staffer.
