I get off work and I do not use a PC/phone/internet. On the weekend, if I am online, it is because I am at work waiting for something to finish or reboot. I'm now the guy who is two/three weeks behind everyone, and that does not bother me at all. I'm missing the online space less and less every week.

My PiHole blocks a fucking ton of bullshit. All of Reddit, twitter, 4chan, facebook. Most of the outrage bait nonsense. Most of the clickbait. Turns out there was some kerfuffle over a Kentucky school over the weekend, it barely registered. I wish I could full on go BOFH on the network and ban all this shit at work.

Me? I watch my wife on surveillance cameras when she's at work so I can see a single human being I give a fuck about.

Sounds like you figured out how to win at the Internet.

Uhhh... that looks to be a significantly different McLuhan book to the one I have in my library... not so sure I want to read this one... ;-)

First UK edition (1967), lifted directly from Wikipedia. It appears to be worth some money.

Have I actually owned a book for 30 years titled "The Medium is the MEssage" and been mis-reading the title and entire concept of the book for that whole time?!?

kleinbl00  ·  300 days ago  ·  link  ·

The title is a play on McLuhan's oft-quoted saying "The medium is the message". The book was initiated by Quentin Fiore. McLuhan adopted the term "massage" to denote the effect each medium has on the human sensorium, taking inventory of the "effects" of numerous media in terms of how they "massage" the sensorium.
