Groove Collection: I've also been into finding lost songs that Spotify won't make available in the US for whatever reason. The original version of Mandolay, which radio stations in Vegas used to play in the mid 90's... but now you can't find it streaming anywhere even though it's the best version of the song. The 1989 song "Downtown" by Norwegian group One 2 Many: "Another Lover" by Giant Steps There are others but I'll stop there.
Spacy and ambient. Mars: The whole album ticks all my boxes It's a shame the mix is so kiki - it could really do with being toned down, warmer and bouba. Ha ha listen to me "Can't we make it pop a bit less?".
who owns the beatles rights now? they finally cracked and put that shit on youtube a lil bit ago so i don't need to remember my spotify password anymore
That is an excellent question and it was harder to answer than I thought it'd be because Google only gave me a bunch of outdated articles. https://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/rock/7662519/beatles-catalog-paul-mccartney-brief-history-ownership The answer seems to be Sony but that answer is based on a year old article about a court case that was being initiated a year ago Edit: Aaaand it was settled confidentially so I got no fucking idea. The answer is apparently some combination of Sony and Paul McCartney
"Beatles" and "rights" is a fascinatingly complicated question.
I put the Tom Tom Clubs, Close to the Bone in heavy rotation a few times a year. I think they are about as underated as I think David Byrne's solo work is overrated. Don't get me wrong, David's stuff is good and there are a few good cuts on every album. He's put out a lot more work than his fellow Talking Heads alums have but his stuff doesn't fill me with the joy that Tom Tom Club can. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLUQh0Am5_ngaFwKi_0SNTiDrVNxpu01FN Give the album a listen. Hot Chocolate's Emma is my new favorite sad jam
The closest Starbucks to me was playing Dave Matthews on a loop and it was almost enough to get me to go to the library for free wifi. But that shit is slow as fuck. Two different Starbucks are now playing Tom Tom Club. Which makes me think they have a top down approach to music in their stores. And maybe someone in Seattle noticed me bitching about Dave Matthews on Twitter
