Compactor - Technology Worship probably wasn't worth the trouble of getting a copy of an album only available on physical media in 2018 though.
I spent a disproportionate amount of yesterday in the car with a sick wife, because Northern Virginia, and I-95 especially, is an impacted colon. What is ostensibly a ~1.5 hour drive took closer 5.
The Scorpions from Lonesome Crow to Virgin Killer to Return To Forever could be three different dissertations on musical genres and an academic study of the progression from rock and roll to heavy metal to mainstream rock, with an entire Corollary on "The Issues With Sibling Guitarists" with the subhead "Why MSG rocked harder, but never as well, as The Scorpions." And the guy sitting next to him in class could do one titled, "Judas Priest: The lifecycle of an axe; or, "From dull to razor sharp, to heavy, rusted, and obsolete."
Dear lord. That song is almost 30 years old, and can stand head-to-head with any metal produced in the last 10 years. Goddamn Priest are good. (Footnote. Glenn Tipton stopped playing this year, after being diagnosed with Parkinsons, and being unable to play the way he used to. Fuckin' Parkinsons.)
And - surprise surprise surprise! - the producer of that, and every other piece of face-melting heavy metal fantasticness is, Chris Tsangarides. Of course.
This track just doesn't make any sense to me. It feels like a bunch of musical ideas stuck in a folder and left. Then later after the original inspiration evaporated, partially developed into 2 or 3 separate tracks... and stalling. Then finally just going "Fuck it, we'll just mash it all together." Still it makes me actually happy so ...
I stumbled onto this song about a month ago while clicking around on Youtube. This isn't usually my kind of music, but there's something fun about the song that makes me come back to it every now and again. I've never heard of the guy, but seeing he has over 12 million views on this video alone, he seems to be well known.
